Has anyone here had to change their waterpump, it looks fairly easy since it's out in the open, but i've been hearing somethin' about a special tool. yesterday when i was drivin' i noticed my car was running about 15 to 20 degrees hotter and going through some antifreeze, so i looked under the hood and sure enough the waterpump was leakin'. it could just be the gasket but i figure since it just turned over 100,000 a couple hundred miles ago, i might as well replace the pump.
Edit: oh yeah, this is for a 1998 Aurora if ya didn't notice down in my sig.

The water pump is in the water crossover. You have to remove the water crossover, and remove the pump with the water pump R&R tool. This tool looks like a very large socket. _______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

I use Alldata and they list it as a requirement to remove the water pump.

I'm sure a high roller like you could afford it though. Why not use it, then eBay it? I'll buy it off of you because there's 2 'roras at my house, and one of them may need a pump soon.

Well, yesterday i bought the waterpump and i figured i'd also get a new thermostat, i wanted a 160 degree one, but all they had was a 180, the total with some antifreeze and some other small things was $102. and i just bought that puller today, the total was like 27 dollars and some change for that, including shipping. I'll have to think about sellin' it to ya, i'm sure i won't need it after this.

isn't a stock thermostat for the rora like 190 degrees? I've heard bad things from people when the change the thermostat to something other then stock.
Best of luck to ya tho.

If you have trouble getting the water pump loose you may have to use a propane torch to heat it.

if anyone would like to purchase it from me since i no longer need it just let me know.

Makes me monder about the shortstar waterpump - it took 20mins to take it off my bmw with two sockets, a flat screwdriver and a jack.
