If you have changed/upgraded the audio in your Aurora, please provide as much detail as you can on your new setup. This will serve as an "ultimate" audio thread. Please try to post as much info as you can, including: - Equipment upgraded
- Brands chosen (and why), prices you paid
- Was it a self-install? Shop install? Knowledgable friend?
- What's different/better about the new setup
- Future plans for additional equipment
- Photo links! Especially boxes, amp racks, and other custom work
Please also feel free to include anything else you think is relevant. If you want to include lots of photos, please make them thumbnails or clickable links (not full sizers) to reduce the effort to scroll through the thread. This is intended to be a showcase thread, not really a discussion thread; so if you want to know specifics about a members' setup, send them a PM or search for a past audio thread posted by them. Members posting to this thread, if you've posted a past thread that shows off even more of your system or upgrades feel free to put that link in your post here Put your earplugs in and enjoy!

Ok, well I'll go first then - JVC KD-AVX11 - Supports future plans for monitors and different inputs, very nice unit with a 7band eq. - Kenwood 9152D ampI went with this because it has a 'grown up' look - remote gain and good power. (900W RMS@2ohms) 1800W max. Class D. Alpine Type-X 12" Subwoofer with a 1" MDF box from a local joint

Original ThreadHead Unit - Alpine CDA-9855 ($350) The best HU Alpine made at the time. It's an awesome HU, with tons of adjustablilty and features, the SlideBar is great. Speaker Amp - Infinity Reference 7541a ($300) Wanted a Kicker KX850.4, but same power, plus I got a 3 year, no questions warranty. Speakers - Alpine Type-R SPR-17LS, JL Audio VR-400 rear ($150 for front/$50 rear) Alpine didn't make the Type-X at the time. The Alpines are very underrated speakers, I'd put them right up there with Kappa Perfect, XR-650's, etc. JL's were leftovers from stock speaker replacements. Sub Amp- Kicker KX1200.1 ($475) Priced right for the sub power levels, plus its a 1200 watt+ (1450 on birth sheet) Kicker, what's not to be? Subs - Kicker 04 CompVR15" (2) ($270) Kicker's best round subs Signal Processor/Crossover - Clarion MCD360 ($50) Just wanted some more 'tweakibility', I wanted a trunk equalizer, closest thing I could find. Capacitor - Power Acoustic 5.0 Farad Cap. ($75) Does a great job masking my stock charging system. Wiring- All Stinger, Stinger Distribution Block, 0ga+ main/sub power + & - cable. 3 20ft RCAs, 3 6ft. RCAs, 4 ga. speaker amp power + & - cable, 14ga speaker wire, 8 ga sub wire ($150'ish ) Everything done in-house, mostly a group effort with my two brothers. The sub box is a sealed & divided enclosure @ 3.66cu. ft. per sub, meaning there's not much trunk left. Its wrapped in black vinyl, with aluminum-like accents. The directions of the subs is a bit unusual, the box, after two attempts, it was too tall to fit, but being the fact that's there's 2 15" subs, it still does want it's suppose to quite nicely . The wiring was run up the center of the car, to avoid any possible interface. The passenger speaker wire was run to and down the left side, avoiding the factory battery cable. Both adjust knobs are hidden in the center console. The radio bezel was converter to single DIN, this new pic shows its corrected now with SEM paint. I mounted the tweeters on the factory non-Bose location, the footwell is a terrible spot IMO, plus with the crossovers in the door, made it easier. Luckily, I was able to get almost everything from eBay, minus the Infinity amp, and the wiring, which combined with doing everything ourselves saved probably half the dough I would have spent. Plus you know its done right Future plans are; add 2 Kicker SMB8s, mounted just under rear deck lid, for mid-bass, to round out the proper sound stage, suffering in the 100-350Hz range... Redo of the sub enclosure, proper aim, gloss black, lighted plexi center, with amps in front, with plexi and lighted as well. Oh ya, pics!

When I set out to upgrade my car audio I wanted only one thing: SOUND QUALITY! I didnt want to pound down the street or be another boom car. I love & enjoy music and I wanted to HEAR every detail in it. I also wanted a very clean install. I like my big trunk and use it all the time so having components back there needed to be out of the way. From start to finish I worked w/ a friend who manages a car audio shop. We sat down and narrowed down what brands would be best for what I wanted. I decided on JBL for the components because of their rep for sound quality and for producing a true sound. The Eclipse amp was chosen for its size and quality. This is a BIG 5 channel amp and it is a workhorse. I went with a 10" Eclipse aluminum sub because I wasn't looking for a ton of bass and installed in in a custom fiberglass enclosure. It puts out exactly what I was hoping for. This is all run through an AudioControl LC6 to get everything sounding just right and because I was sticking with my factory HU. It turned out perfect. Now with my new iPod i am looking into options for an aftermarket HU so I can wire it in. My main concern is the lack of quality double din HU's out there. I am looking at a few Eclipse and Alpine HU and and drawing out some ideas for a nice clean install in the factory opening - fiberglass here - new trim there - who knows... HU: Factory (I really like the steering wheel controls!) Doors: JBL Power Series 6 1/2" Components Rear: JBL Power Series 6x9's Amp: Eclipse 5532 5 ch. Eq: AudioControl LC6 Sub: Eclipse Aluminum 10" Custom fiberglass sub box

Here's my setup. Finally found the time to do this. It will be quick, but here it is. HU is a Pioneer FH-P5000MP ($400) it's a double din and I love it. Just what I wanted. I installed everything myself. The HU, amps and sub twice because they stole it once. Here's a pic of the HU: Here it's open: Here's my trunk with two Infinity Refrence Amps one is the 5761A a 4 channel at 560W(for 4 Kappa Series comp speakers...forgot the #s, but fronts are 90W and rears 110W) and the other is a 600W 1 channel amp for the 12" Type R 500W sub...slightly over powered, but I run it at like 60%-70% anyway. I still have enough room in the trunk and the quality of the sound is amazing. I absolutely love it and so does every single person that every sat in the car. Feel free to ask any questions.

oh my damn, so i just jumped on this deal i caught on crutchfield after stalking ebay for a couple of months...i grabbed a pair of infinity kappa perfect subs for 180 got them in a few days and had them installed on my day off....wow...all i can say is my rearview mirror is now a backseat monitor lol I now keep the card key which was so easy to find in the strap on my visor in the center console because it flys off into my lap otherwise, and best of all...old people try to inch forward when next to me at traffic lights LOL..Im loving it....next upgrade 5.25 kappa perfect components and kappa 6x9's I need some of my highs back.

Yep... this is quite annoying, actually. Anyone have a fix?
I'll post pictures of my setup soon! If I remember.
JL Audio 500/1 Amp
2 JL Audio 12" 12W3 Subs in sealed enclosure. I bought this about 3 years ago and used it in my '99 Beetle until I traded it in for the Aurora. I had them installed by Tweeter.
They hit VERY low, just as I like it. (60 minutes of Sigur Ros and I'm in heaven).
Stock nav radio with 5-disc (Nakamichi) CD changer in glove box.
Future: When it gets warmer I'm going to seal up the entire trunk with some sort of Dynamat product. I might get the factory 12-disc, if I find one cheap. That's all I really want to do.

I just have some hand me down stuff. I was given two 12 inch kicker CVRs in a kicker box. They also came with a Dual 340 2 channel amp. The only thing I bought was a amp kit and a line out converter. I figured since i have a stock head unit and the battery is in the back i would keep everything back there. I was unable to find a good fuse to hook into under the back seat so I did a little custom toggle switch that is hidden just out of sight under the front lip of the read seat. Every thing sounds fine and I too am a victim of the shaking rear view mirror. The LOC was a must. I tried pulling the signal for the amp without it and it didn't work. P.S. I also have a pair of Eclipse 4 way 6x9s in the back that sound amazing. This is the LOC soldered into the rear 6x9 Hidden toggle Under seat view of back of toggle

Hey, people, So my old system is now in the Aurora. Nothing terribly special (click images for full-size): Eclipse 8443 head unit and the controller for my sub amp Alpine MRV-T420 for the front speakers (MB Quart PSD 216), Alpine MRD-M500 for the subs (Image Dynamics IDv2, 10") The subs... you may notice here the plastic piece for the back of the trunk is still there... I am debating whether or not to keep it there.

I don't have much for sound. All my friends have big loud rattle-rattle systems that i personally hate. I will admit, being a teen of today i like to have "bangs", but i'm also very picky about how my music sounds. Because i listen to such a wide range of music from varying sources, i took a good amount of time choosing items for the car.
HU: Alpine CDE-9881. Very nice unit for the money, lots of adjustment built in, full-speed i-pod hookup, and 3 pre-outs. Easy to use, easier than the pioneers out today. I've never owned Alpine before, and i'm glad i chose it. $179.99
Main speakers: Don't laugh. Durabrand. That's right, walmart $19.99 any size same price speakers. I honestly stood in the isle in store for an hour comparing specs on the different speakers. Now, this doesn't mean they compare to eclipse, JBL, infinity, etc. But for poly-coned, rubber surrounds, high sensitivity, and 3-way (front) and 4-way (rear) speakers they are a GREAT deal. Very loud, and they play clear until you start to be really mean. I also have the HPF filter on my deck set at 120hz, keeping the mains safe. $49.98
Subwoofers: At the moment, Visonik. Cheapy pep boys special. I have 2 Kicker CVR 10" on the way. They'll be run by a Rockford Fosgate P3001 mono amp, rated at 600w continuous at 2ohms. VERY powerful amp, and under-rated i'm sure. I looked into 12" subwoofers, but i like the tighter bass of the 10's. They're in a dual 10" box, with a center wall. .6 cu. ft. per side. Sealed. Exactly what my new subwoofers call for. Subs are BOGO at $129.99 on clearance. Amp was $99.99 practically new at the pawn shop.
I installed everything myself.

Sony XGT30 something hundred H.U. with Rockford speakers all the way around. I just sold the Kicker Comp. 15 with a 900 Watt Mono block that literally rattled the windows of houses down the road. I am about to put a newer stock radio back in though because I like the cleaner look and it goes better with how I have the interior set up...

1 - DDaudio 9512 Custom rebuilt for stiffer suspension. 1 - DDaudio Z1 Rated 3000 RMS into 2 ohms 4000 RMS into 1 ohm all at 12.5 volts with one battery). I've got mine wired for 2 ohms normal everday, and 1 ohm for competitions. Amp really does about 3500 watts rms into 2 ohms though at 14.4 volts with several batteries it will push over 5000 watts real world RMS into 1 ohm. DDaudio 6.5" component set - not the best but it is clean and the sound is flat and they take gobs of power without frying or bottoming out and still sounding clean. Infinity Reference two way 6x9 - these are just for back fill, nothing special about these whatsoever. Run these from the deck power. I only have them turned up so I can barely tell they are there. this way they add a sense of space to the vehicle sound. I dont use these to add loudness, music doesnt come from behind you at a concert. Only reflected sound does. These speakers are only there to recreate that reflected muffled sound form behind. Pioneer AVIC D3 Navigation... Just got it, probably gonna return it. The 3band parametric EQ just doesnt do the job for me. Also, the navigation likes to take you on wild goose chases. I almost lost a new client because the navigation had me looking for the business about 1 mile down the road from where it is located in real life. I says my house is about 3 miles down the road from where I really live (unless I've just been living in someone elses house for the past 3 years). Only have 2v line outputs. That picture I attatched is of my DDAudio 9512 with my 3 CuFt ported box. I did 60 Sq In of port area and it is tuned to 34 hz in the car. outside of the car it is tuned to about 37 hz. Box is rinolined and epoxy resined completely inside. One thing to you guys running 2 3 or 4 subs... Why not just buy ONE good sub that can take the power and spend the rest on amplifiers. You'll save money and it will be much more impressive than a trunk full of speakers. At competitions, I beat people in walled off SUV's with 2 or 4 15" subs with only one 12" DDAudio. Subwoofers should only be added if you are exceeding the power they can take. Adding another sub to the same 300watts of power isnt gonna get you louder. It will change how it sounds, but not louder. Subs are like tires. You dont need z rated tires if your car cant do 150 MPH. If your engine can only get you to 110, H rated tires are fine. If you get a bigger engine that can take you to 170 MPH THEN you need to get better tires. Its much more effective to boost engine power than to get better tires. It is much more effective to get more amplifier power than to add speakers. More speakers/better speakers allow you to use more power effectively. Wider/better tires allows you to use a higher power engine more effectively. These are general rules, there are some what ifs but in general this is the rule. You cant change the laws of physics. 300 watts is 300 watts, adding speakers just spreads those 300 watts between speakers, you still will have only 300 watts of power to make the music (or whatever you listen to) louder. That's why I run 3000 watts to only one high quality subwoofer that can take that power and the results are much better and practical than a trunk load of speakers driven by a stupidly overrated audiobahn "1000" watt amp. EDIT: P.S. to all of you who sit at stop lights with your system cranked in a line full of cars, dont do it. It's annoying, it's distracting/dangerous to other drivers, and the only person who thinks it is cool is you. And plus, mines louder any ways

Quality Headunit: Pioneer Premieer DEH-690UB 4 Volt Preouts, .01%THD 24bit DA converter Amps: Sony 4060GTX 60W RMS X 4 .04%THD @ 4 Ohms Pioneer GM-7300 125W RMS .08% THD Speakers: Focal Access 6.5 Component (Great Crossovers and clarity) Focal Access 6 X 9 Pioneen 12" Sub nice crisp sound, excelent response, 125W RMS nominal but I will tell you what, I had a Bridged 35W amplifier absolutly waste it. Sound treatment and miced for the sound
Excelent quality hurt your ears with minimal distortion loud. Who needs anymore, the bass is balanced perfectly with the speakers.
Setbacks: The resonanse inside the door is driving me nuts. I am going to pull my door pannel off soon because it sounds as if when my speakers were installed I lost some sound insulation. I will fill it with oil dry mat, works great for that. Also Large thin sheets of rubber layerd overthat is great. As for the speaker "cutout" I will isolate with a wood encasement and sound foam.

Well i guess i'll re-do my original posting, now that i've made some updates:
New dual 10" sealed, separate chamber box for 2 Kicker CVR 10" dual 4-ohm, wired in parallel. Audiopipe GMT-5100 or something 2-channel amp. It's a british company, very highly rated. CEA-2006 compliant 272w/ch. MUCH better than the rockford P3001 (that i blew up).
Upgraded to the Alpine CDA-9883 HU. HD radio, sirius and XM compatible, Bluetooth, i-pod ready. CEA-2006 rated at 18x4. Even better than my last deck.
That's about all i've got for now, 4-channel amp and new 6x9's to come.

The audio upgrades that I've made to my Aurora are.... 1. Replaced the factory radio with a Pioneer DEH-P5000UB head unit. 2. Added a Pioneer GEX-P10HD HD-Radio tuner 3. Added a Pioneer GEX-P920XM XM Radio tuner 4. Installed a SWI-PS steering wheel button controller (cuz I was NOT losing the use of those buttons!) Most of the stuff I got on Crutchfield.com, except for the XM tuner. (because they were sold out) I went to Amazon.com for that one. That's basically all I've done. I've left the speakers alone so far, and I have no plans to install an amplifier or any of that stuff. I don't want a thumper so that I can relive my teenage years. I just want a system that sounds excellent. The basic reason why I went for that particular setup is that I can add upgrades later by daisy chaining stuff together. I can still slap on a Bluetooth module, (though I probably won't do that) a Sirius satellite radio tuner, a CD changer in the trunk, an iPod connector, whatever I want, pretty much. I suppose that I could replace the factory speakers at some point in the future, but they actually sound pretty decent for factory. I never thought I'd ever say that. In the following link, I've explained how I've managed to put it all together. (reply #2 in thread) aurorah.proboards47.com/v45index.cgi?board=Audio&action=display&thread=5112

finally got my system upgraded. i kept the stock head unit just b/c i like it and the steering controls work. i know i could get after market and keep it but money is tight right now. maybe in the future. i don't think it would be alot of improvement actually. i had my HU rebuilt by a guy who specializes in the delco radios and he told me that the one in my aurora was actually identical to a SONY. thats right our delco radios have a sony disk player and 22 watt built in amp with the delco wrapping. heres my upgrades all speakers replaced with KENWOOD for a little bass kick in the ass got KENWOOD WFC-110S SUBS for those of you who aren't familiar thats a 10" inch sub with a 57.8 oz. magnet (3.6125 pounds) 350 watts RMS and 700 watts peak performance driving all the way down to 32 HZ got a matching KENWOOD KAC-5203 amp 5 HZ - 50 khz @ 4 OHM with 0.08% THD (distortion) signal to noise ratio = 95 DB STINGER true spec tinned oxygen free 8 GA copper wiring & 60 amp gold plated inline fuse AUDIO ENHANCEMENTS sealed sub box. my girlfriend is into hip hop and it will shake the mirrors pretty good. myself i'm more VAN HALEN and i can literally turn it up full blast and its like being in center 3rd row at their concert with absolutely no noticeable distortion at all. it may not be the best system on this website but darn if it won't rattle your head and if i really wanna rock out... nothing sounds much better than some old school KMFDM at nearly 100 decibels

I don't post often, but I gleam a lot of info from this site! Anyway here is what I've got so far I've upgraded the head unit and the speakers I have a Pioneer DEH-5000UB for the head unit Infinity Kappa 50.9cs (5-1/4" woofers with 1" tweeters and a crossover) these are up front Infinity Kappa 693.9i (6x9" 3-way full range speakers) for the back The HU was put in by a a co-worker (I work at Best Buy so I had him do it), and my dad and I did the speakers. I really enjoy the new sound it is quite clear compared to the factory system. My system covers all of it, lows-mids-highs all very clear. I listen to a lot of Rock, pretty fast paced stuff. I don't think I'm quite done yet I'm getting steering wheel controls re-added, and thinking about getting two Alpine 10" Type-R's with capacitor and an Amp (haven't decided yet) to finish out the system. (This Friday is pay-day) I will about this weekend getting some photos of the tweeters and crossovers, and if I get the subs I'll get a picture of those too! Edit: I got everything on employee discont/accomidations so I've paid around $250.00 for it all so far, I believe retail would be at least $500.00 ish

I have a pretty solid system, future plans include infinity speakers, removing the bose sub box and upgrading to 2 subs. I don't want anything too heavy right how. It'll definitely rattle the mirrors but doesn't overpower everything else.
Speakers: Stock Bose Acoustimass System. I run the stock amp and speakers, they give me enough sound quality at the moment.
Head Unit: Dual XDMR7710. Iplug, XM ready, plays all file formats, full size hide-away screen.
Sub: 10" Pioneer Premier Champion Series. 350watts RMS (1200 watt peak), Dual Voice Coil, 2ohm stable. (in a ported box)
Amp: 500 watt Mono Lightning Audio Strike Series S4.500.1. Internal crossover, dual sub inputs, blue LED accents around logo panel.
I'm pretty happy with my system at the moment, like I said above it hits hard without damaging your hearing (lol). This is my second setup, I used to run a 2005 10" Kicker Comp woofer (250 watts) and a 150watt 2-channel (Base Series) Lightning Audio amp. It was decent but wasn't loud enough. I upgraded to the Pioneer woofer before I upgraded the amp... Lesson learned: If you plug a 400 watt woofer into a 150 watt amp you will need a new amp after a couple months. ;D I stuck with Lightning Audio b/c it produced a clear sound and handled the woofer exactly how I wanted it to, and I didn't want to pay for a brand name. I almost got a Kicker amp, but it as 300 watts for the same price as the 500 watt LA.
Pics to come, stay tuned.
