I am wondering what would cause the trunk to mysteriously open. I am nowhere around when this happens so you can't blame my fat fingers. And its happened a few tiimes.
Anyone have this happen? Anyone have a solution?

You're not hitting the button while putting your keys in your pocket, right? (Simple things first!)

Yes omegaic, what I though as well. I can't lock or unlock the car unless I'm within about 20-30 yds, but I needed to open the trunk for one of my employees to get something and found I could open it from a fourth floor closed office window with the car on the far side of the parking lot, approximately 250 yds away.

I'm assuming that you had line of sight then.

. . . . .I could open it from a fourth floor closed office window with the car on the far side of the parking lot, approximately 250 yds away. I guess my having to be within about 30 feet means I need a new battery then - I wondered what the range was supposed to be.

I don't believe I am hitting it. While I am st work, I have no line of sight to the parking lot. I am inside a concrete and brick building.

'Does it happen only at work, as in, could somebody else be on the same frequency as your trunk un-lock.

I have noticed it other places before, but chaulked it up to my pesky fat fingers. But this is actually the first time I noticed it at work.

Anything in common that would link this occurrence with where you are or what you are doing at the time? Does it happen at home or only at work? Maybe more often at the super market than at the bank? etc...

I was being very serious. If we can find the trend that ends with your trunk open, we can narrow down the causes. Perhaps start with some white lithium grease on the trunk catch, make sure everything's nice and lubed.

I was being very serious too. Do you have a second key fob that you can use for a few days in case the original is to blame. Could be damp, loose wire, sticky trunk unlock button or just worn out.

I'm assuming that you had line of sight then. Does that matter with our fobs? They operate on a radio frequency (right?), with can go around certain obstacles... as opposed to an IR or laser beam (like a TV remote) that has to be aimed at the source.

No second key FOB to use. I bought the car with only one, so I have to buy one off of ebay one of these days.

The biggest killer for range with radio is obstacles. The more stuff you put in the way, the less RF energy per unit area is recieved. Does that matter with our fobs? Note that there is a big difference between lock/unlock range and trunk openning range for me. Not a clue as to why this is. Yes omegaic, I was looking out the window so I could see if the trunk opened. The girl I was opening for it for loves the car an I was sure she would take it for a spin if I gave her the keys. ;D

Understood, but my thought was that the fob radio signal *could* still get to the car with an obstacle or two in the way. I just didn't want erw to narrow down his possible fob activation only to situations when he can see his Aurora.

Have you checked inside your fob for any problems.
If you don't have a second fob then try leaving the original at home for a few days.

O.K. then leave the sun roof open and run a bungee chord from the steering wheel to the rear bumper or get one of them there spoilers, a real heavy one to keep the trunk closed. ;D

Serious mode. I hope I'm not flogging a dead horse but did you consider that you may have a problem with the trunk unlock on the dash. It is quite close to the ignition and maybe you could have bumped it when you removed your keys, I probably would not notice if the trunk was slightly open as I left the car. Try using the trunk unlock disable in the glove compartment.

I found a TSB that may be of interest to you.
Some owners may comment that the trunk may inadvertently open while the transmitter is in their pocket or purse.
Correction
Replace the transmitter with P/N 25678792. The new transmitter has a longer detent to actuate the trunk release so that it cannot be accidentally pressed and have the trunk open.

The new transmitter has a longer detent to actuate the trunk release so that it cannot be accidentally pressed and have the trunk open. do you know if it still has the button for trunk release on it though? i comes in handy. although, i make sure i don't press the trunk release in my pocket, i know i have a few times, but luckely it wasn't in a public place, since in my trunk has a good thousand dollars or more worth of audio equipment.
