How do you guys feel about blacking out the headlights and rear. I know that looks 99% nasty on 99% of vehicles...but doesnt hurt to ask.

The only problem is that driving at nighttime, you can't see where you are going...and the person behind can't see when you are stopping but other than that a car with blacked out lights should look great at the scrapyard

if you are going to do it...use VHT Nightshades on the tails. As for the front GTS supplies the market with covers, but of course none for the Aurora...no real market for it. You'll have to McGyer something up. Could look neat tho.
Yer best bet for a custom look, drop kit, rims and tints, anything more then that is to much

I was thinking cutting out a template and using window tint film, you can still see the light at night by the way.
Whats your opinions on using window tint, and does anyone else think it might look good or NASTY

That would work! You'd hav to leave the headlamp assembly on the car, to remove it you need to remove the side fender panel It would probably look good, but Photoshop it first.

wow, and here I thought I was gonna hear that that was a disgusting idea...
Well, unless others think it might be a disgusting idea, that gives me something to do this weekend, awesome, I cant really spend any real $$ so im steadily thinking what things I can do that are CHEAP.
I could spend $$ on the car, but I bought my 1st house in January, and in any case any real spending would go there, not that ti needs it because its brand new.

Euh just dont have yer car look like this haha, that looks awesome, lol, i'm not saying i would ever do that to my baby. I wonder if that person ever did any actual performance mods Edit: oops sorry for getting off topic Hmm, i would think a black Aurora would benifite more asthetically than any other color Aurora, although white would look good too. not sure on the maroon color, like Jim said, you could always photoshop it or talk someone into doin' it for you

I care to comment... and I will be the one to dissent (sorry). I'm not sure it would look so good. I had tinted covers on my '92 Caprice... they looked kinda cool, but I would say overall the disadvantages outweighed the advantages. You could try window tint, but I think that would be difficult given the curved surface of the headlight covers. For instance, when a rear window is tinted, the film has to be cut into several strips to properly fit the curves. With the Aurora headlights, you'd have to cut so many pieces to fit all the gaps that it would probably look, well, crappy. And believe me, there is a lighting issue with any kind of tinted headlights... yes the light shines through to some extent, but it is *greatly* diminished. You do NOT want tinted headlamps in any kind of inclement conditions (nighttime rain, fog, snow, deer season, etc.) or you are putting yourself at serious risk. Lastly, it's a fad. Tinted headlights were cool 10 years ago when "GTO" first made their covers, but it's not quite as rad now. Just my 15 cents...

Scotty, in regards to the curve, it is so minimal as compared to a windshield that I dont think the cureve here would be a prob, I mean its just like getting a large piece of paper and laying it over.
Regarding light shining thru, I think thru tint film it would shine thru pretty bright due to the density of the film, and really dark film isnt required.
Personally I think tint looks better than aftermarket covers like th GTS.
My only turn off in this idea was the whole fad thing, WalMart has a $8 roll of tint...I might try it out just to see how it looks, or at least try with a piece of paper 1st to confirm the whole curve thing.

Whassappening guys,
So someone is looking to do the clear side markers?
If you can take on the job, go for it.
You will need a *heat gun *screwdriver to pry it open *clear or white silicon, it does not matter which one you use it will be inside the body panel.
And lot's of patience.
But after all is done, it looks good.
Let me know if it works for you.
Peace.

wow, and here I thought I was gonna hear that that was a disgusting idea... Could be a few of us were biting our tongues. I didn't see the point in saying anything, because what do you care if I don't like it? But since you really seem to be asking, I think it'll look pretty 80's, which is not a compliment.

i have a black aurora and i think it would go good with it IMO, but then again if i dont' like it i'll just scrape off the tint no biggie. i think in the daytime it would rock a$$ but i would have to disable the drl's to get a better look. the other day i saw somebody with some headlights that were of another color like the whole lense was colored and i bet it was with tint. it looked cool did'nt diminish the light too much but i'll have to check it out. besides tinting the lenses would also have to upgrade the lighting a tad with some silverstars or something. Anyays i don't think it will be too bad at night since light will pass out of the tint than it will pass in thru the tint. like how you can see out but not in a car with tinted windows.

There are headlight blackouts that work perfectly on our cars! I have a 95 Aurora sporting the headlight covers off of a Alero, they fit all the way around the light and even tuck very neatly in the fenders!! I'll post pics when I take a couple!

How do you guys feel about blacking out the headlights and rear. I know that looks 99% nasty on 99% of vehicles...but doesnt hurt to ask. I have tinted my tail lights and I made them dark. I used the lens tint from Autozone and yes the tint is translucent so at night time the lights shine right through it. During the day time it is kinda hard to see but you can still see them. The most important part is I have had plenty of state troopers, police, and sheriff's behind me and I have never been pulled and on top of that I got my inspection done with them tinted and I told the man up front my tail lights tinted but you can still see it. Since they have their company in like a warehouse like building it was kinda dark inside so of course they saw the lights and they let me pass. Oh by the way IF you do it right tinted tail lights look good on any car in my opinion. Attachments:

tim1993, did you shoot clear on your lights? The tint spray will fade over time as well, I've had it on 2 different cars. I don't know if I'll do it again, not worth getting rear ended over, it IS kind of hard to see in the day time with filament bulbs.

Dull orange peel looking so I would say no clear.
You can run 3457 bulbs for ~100 more lumens on the brake filament IIRC. I really wouldn't go heavy unless you are putting a custom LED array behind it. I have also seen some V3 Tritons perform well behind dark tint on a Sunfire/Cavalier IRRC.
Plasti-Dip smoke + glossifier is popular now too but yields orange peel results as well from what I have seen. Tamiya smoke is really good.

When I smoked my tails, I went less than half the coating thickness they describe. Mine appear darker than normal in daylight, but when the lights are on, you can harly tell I've done anything to them. It's about perfect for what I wanted.

In my picture what you are seeing is the sun shining at my camera making it look orange and dull but up close its straight black man. I used Rust-Oleum brand I have had my tail lights tinted for a while now and no signs of fading.
