For all those here who do not do their own oil changes, here are some pictures of an oil change for my 2001 4.0: When doing an oil change, I prefer to use ramps. Here, I am using a dial type torque wrench to tighten the oil pan drain plug to 15 ft. lbs., the factory figure. In this picture, I am using a cup type oil filter wrench to tighten the oil filter (Delco PF-61). I lined the cup with a piece of a plastic shopping bag to prevent it from jamming on the filter. _______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Marc, you use a torque wrench to tighten the filter? Does the service manual have a torque spec? Typically the ACDelco box just says x turns past when the gasket touches, which is what I've always done. I'll have to check that out when I do the next change. I'd be afraid of distorting the filter wth a filter wrench.

Aurora40....I don't use the torque wrench to tighten the filter. I just use the rachet wrench with the cup wrench and tighten the filter until it feels snug, which is usually about 1 turn past handtight. There is a factory torque figure in the 2001 shop manual. On page 6-535, an amount of 24 ft. lbs. is stated, but I think that's too much. ______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!
