I GOT THE REAR BENCH OUT!!! I found out what the trouble was!!! THE FACTORY MANUAL HAD THE WRONG INSTRUCTIONS!!! IT WAS THE OWNER'S MANUAL THAT WAS RIGHT!!! All that had to be done was to stand outside the car, and give a good sharp pull upwards and fowards at the same time. The 2 catches released immediately! The factory manual said "push in" instead of "pull up". Without further ado, pictures!!!! The rear bench removed: Battery & Fusebox: Catch on the seat and the slot it fits into: I'm not one to blow my own horn, but I've been working on cars since before I learned how to drive, and I wasn't about to give up on a basically very simple thing!!!! _______________ GM!!! I still can't understand why the shop manual had the wrong info on this! [/img]
Or why it got perpetuated to the 2002 manual. Mine says exactly what yours does.

It juar snapd back into place. Just rest it on the supports and press doen on it. Couldn't be simpler, even I did it! (and everyone knows that that is a big accomplishment for me.

R4D30N.....Do what erw38 said. Put the seat on the support, and make sure that the catches are lined up with the slots that they fit into. Also see that the seat belts are in their notches at the back of the seat. Then press down hard on the front of the cushion, and the catches will snap back into their slots. _________________ GM!!! Look what I found when I removed my seatlast weekend - the previous owner was filthy indeed.

I think that the previous owner had to have deliberately removed the rear seat to dump all that garbage there. There's no way it just could have fallen under the rear seat by itself. _____________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

I was thinking the same - but who knows? Perhaps the back seat was literally filled with garbage.
