The fan control light is out on the steering wheel on my 01. Can I replace just that bulb, and does anyone know how to do it? Thanks for any help.

I have the same light out on my Classic.
Not sure if its the same on the 2nd Gen, but if so, there is a curcuit board behind the button, and according to my service friends at GM, its fibre optic lighting. Either way, the part was over $400 CDN, so I said forget it.
I suppose that brings up another topic on fibre optics, but I wont get into that.
However I do believe you and I are the only ones to have our fan control light out. :/

the cost for the 2nd gen steering wheel climate control switch module is $20 according to my parts listings. check with GM for correct part numbers. There are several different numbers listed because of different interior colors! Hope this helps!

The bulbs are part of the switches on the steering wheel in the 2001/03. If the bulb burns out, the switch has to be replaced. Replacing the switch itself is easy. But the problem is that before you can R&R the switch, the air bag module in the steering wheel has to be removed. According to the 2001 shop manual, to R&R the air bag module, you have to disconnect the air bag system. That procedure takes up 3 pages in the shop manual.

Well, I guess I'm with Jim on this one. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, and more than I care to mess with. It'll just stay out for awhile

Sigh... my third steering wheel light died today. Only the temperature light left That makes 7 total.. two on the DIC, both heated seats, and three steering wheel... sigh. At least none are dead on the odometer - but I drive mostly at night so I suppose it'll happen sometime or another.

I've only had both heated seat switches burn out. You don't have your foglights on all the time do you? If you do your dash lights will always be on. also, if you have the rain sensing wipers and you leave them on auto the lights will also always be on.. That's why these dash lights burn out too often. Between the foglights being switched on, or the wipers, they're bound to burn out quickly from being overused.

Mine burned out earlier this year just like yours did (Macadamiaman) and my car was under warranty, but I had a $50.00 deductable. Both switches totalled to about $55.00 and I installed it myself. Why inconvenience myself for a 10 minute job and still pay them %50 bucks? I didn't have to remove the airbag or anything. I used a small flathead screwdriver, inserted it under the back side of the switch and they slide right out. Disconnect the little connector on the back. Plug in the new switch to the connector and insert it right back in place. Nice and neat fit. Very easy. The new ones pop right in. No fuss, no mess. Besides if you break the old ones... it won't matter since you're replacing them anyway.

You're a smart one..
The other day the one living steering wheel light switched on me. So I hit the other one with my hand and that came back to life. Now I have two, and every now and then one, that work.. Could it be that the connection on the others is the only problem, not the light itself? This would mean that I wouldn't have to buy the buttons but just fix the ones there, right? Hmm...

I'll try hitting my steering wheel as well, but I'm just not that violent!
