I sometimes get the "low oil pressure" on my DIC when i first start the engine cold. When fully warmed up I checked my oil pressure and this is what I found. at idle it's 17 PSI. Cruising it's 42 PSI and at WOT it's 75 PSI. Sound normal? The idle oil pressure seems low to me...?

Before I replaced the engine I got the same message every now and then in the VERY cold mornings (like below zero)... however, both then and now, the oil pressure has never been anything other than 130 PSI or 131 PSI. Broken sensor?

my 2001 does the same thing... 130/131 PSI all the time. Busted sensor. They wanted too much to replace it. I just check the oil level by hand all the time now - no big deal.

Oil pressure and oil level are two totally different things. Oil level is how much oil is in your engine. Oil pressure is the force in which the oil is being moved throughout the engine. Low oil pressure means that the pump isn't pumping with enough force. Just wanted to make that clear to avoid a potential costly mistake.

I think all is well. I checked my pressure today and with a cold engine at idle I get 92 PSI and when revving to 2,400 RPM I get 116 PSI. Sounds like it's just fine. The hot idle oil pressure still seems real low at 17 PSI though. I'm running regular dino oil (5 W30).

My oil pressure is in the 15-20psi range when the car is *fully* warmed up (not just when the coolant gauge is to normal).
However, it's odd that you have low oil pressure at startup. Perhaps the warning is just too sensitive? I mean, it's at 0 psi for an instant when you start it.
Try flipping the DIC to oil pressure before you start, and see how long it takes for pressure to register.
Your idle pressure sounds fine to me, though. My cold pressure never gets into the 90's, though, let alone triple digits! Usually in the 70's occasionally going to 80's. I don't get on it until the oil has warmed and the pressure has dropped, though, so I can't say what WOT cold pressure would be.

I don't know WOT cold oil pressure either.. I'd never do it. heh. It only registered 116 PSI on a quick blip of the throttle to 2,400 RPM.

How much did they want to fix the sensor? Dealer or regular shop? I'd like to get it fixed if it's not toooo much... nice to know the oil pressure.

Do you use a Fram filter on yours? If so junk it and try a better filter.

My oil pressure gauge always read about 130psi. I know this is bad. On top of that, my car burns about a quart of oil every week. What's up with that? It looks like my gaskets are leaking? What kind of costs am I looking at? And the gauge?

If you are burning a quart of oil a week, I hope you are driving over 1k miles in that week? I guess there is some sort of tech bulliten on oil consumption in our 3.5's. They consider some oil consumption "normal" but I forget the exact figures they use. You would know if your gaskets were leaking cause you would have oil everywhere including the ground.
