I have around 85000 miles on my 2001 aurora. Do you think its a good time to get a tune up? Change plugs,wires.etc.?

I'd think about doing it. New plugs, wires if they are applicable, I don't think the 4.0's in the 2nd gens have them, I believe the plugs have individual coils right on top of them (I have not checked my '03). A fuel filter and a tranny service should round out your tune up. Now mind you, I went 285 000 km's (almost 180 000 miles) in my '97SSEi without doing a tune up and after I did it, I did not notice a difference, the plugs were still in decent shape, go figure. I was lucky there I admit but that car did not cost me much money to run, actually, practically none.

the 3.5 also does not have any plug wires. Your tune up will basically consist of spark plugs, air filter, PCV valve, and that's about it. Maybe an intake cleaning too to remove carbon. the 3.5 likes to carbon up the intake and throttle body..

Yeah, what they said. I'd do it with 85k on the clock. I'd put in a new fuel filter too.

To tell you the truth when I got my car I instinctively pulled the plugs and they all looked new with clean, thick electrodes. These platinum plugs are unbelievable - I gave the previous owner a call and she confirmed the plugs were never changed, just the oil, tranny fluid and filters. The car runs great, the gas mileage is excellent with original platinum plugs at just shy of 138k.

About how much does a plug change cost for the 3.5? Never had a car without plug wires

to do it yourself or have someone else do it? GOod spark plugs will run you near, or over, $30.

They are Denso Iridium plugs. I believe they are in the neighborhood of $5 a plug or so? I'd say well worth it, though, as they are good plugs. The electrode is almost unbelievably thin.
