In the morning when I start my car a very loud whine starts. Lasts for 30 sec. or so. The same sound will also go on and off while driving only in very short 1 or 2 sec at a time. I am also running a secondary air code. Are these two things seperate or is one causeing the other.
The noise is not the alt. or fan or anything. I have checked them. It sound like i have a turbine powered aurora!

There is some sort of an air injection motor or something that runs when the car is cold, this is probably going on you. Any 3.5'ers out there who can help?? I'm not sure what exactly it is called.

I get a similar sound particulaly when it's started for the first time in the day. It's the rear air shocks leveling out the car.

Secondary air injection pump tends to make noise on some 3.5s when upon cold start, especially during cool weather.

This has been going on for awhile now and through out the summer. It will go on and off while driving too. Its comming from the engine compt. because I know the sound of the leveler and its not that...

You're hearing the air-pump (based on your description). The air-pump will run for ~30seconds at startup when the engine is cold. It pulls air in from snorkel and pushes it into each exhaust manifold to let the unburned fuel combust more completely (helps w/ emissions and heats up the cat faster). The air-pump is located in the drivers side front fender and can be accessed by removing the plastic rivets that secure the wheel well liner and pulling the liner back. The pump has an electrical connection (power) on top, and there are two rubber hoses connected to it. One for intake air, the other leads to the exhaust manifolds. It's relatively quiet when the hoses are connected properly, but would sound like a loud vacuum cleaner if the hoses were not connected.
