I've been noticing a really strong sulphur smell coming from the exhaust of my car the last few weeks. By strong, I mean that you can sometimes smell it inside the car if you back up. It almost burns your nose. If you walk around the car you can smell it as it's very noticable. I just rolled over to 48,000 miles. What would you guess to cause that strong smell? Isn't it early to need a tune up?

That smell could be caused by the catalytic converter. But before doing anything with the cat con, try changing to a different brand of gas. Sometimes that solves the problem.

I agree with Marc, get your converter checked out. It might be getting plugged up and/or failing. Didn't you mention a while back that you were thinking about a high flow cat?? This might be your chance to do it legally. Just a thought.

Oxygen sensor would be my first thing to check.

I notice that on my car too for the past 5,000 miles. It also changes the tailpipe color to like orangish and really dark shade of blue almost. It smells gross.
You could probably do better with oil changes at 3k intervals instead of 6k too.
