New owner of a 2001 4.0 with 56K miles, A/C does not engage. No sign of leaks. Have only done a visual inspection.
What can I expect to pay, worst case? What have others paid to have it serviced?
Thanks, Paul

Our Intrigue's compressor had a crack. Cost to replace ~$1000.

If it's worst case, double-check and see if the previous owner of your Aurora took out the 60k mile extended warranty option. Or if you think the compressor is on its way to failure, you might want to buy a warranty yourself and then have it repaired. In a case like that, I think the warranty cost could be jusitified (there have been several previous discussion on that topic ).

My car was put in service in August of 2000, so the warrantee has expired. I tried a new warrantee; they require an inspection before approving it.
I have no idea of the severity of the problem. I am looking for a price range to expect.
The compressor does not engage, no evidence of leaks. I do not know the low and high pressure measurements since I don't have the equipment.

have you tried one of those DIY refill freon kits? it will tell you if its full or show red if something is wrong. only $20 and if it happens to be empty then saves you the trouble.

Food for thought, betonthis1, I might try that.
By the way, where did you get the avitar of the Aurora V8? That would be a slick wallpaper if it were larger.
