just curious if anyone else has done it. and if so, did you find it to be as much of a pain-in-the-butt as i did? i wrestled with the darn thing for about 20 minutes till i could get it in!

i thought mine was tough to get out but after people came on here and said it was easy, i went out to my car to see for myself, and it was real easy, but i can see where you would have trouble with an aftermarket filter and not the factory replacement

I changed mine. I didn't have any problems, it just pulls out.

getting it out wasnt the problem, i had a good amount of trouble getting the new one in. didnt get a GM replacement, just went with a carquest filter. it was perfectly flat, not like the factory one that has the bend in it, so i had to snap it myself. also, it was much more flimsy than the factory one....it got all skrunched up when i put it in

Oh... Yeah it would probably be hard to put in a non-pre-bent one. The AC one was like $15 or so.

it took me less than a minute to change mine actually. I bought one at autozone. It cost me somewhere around $18. the Carbon filter was over $30 though. (the one that neutralizes outside odors.)

this is wierd, just changed mine last night, as well as fog light bulb. Filter cost me 15.98 at Advanced Auto Parts fog light bulb was 8.98. Took about 2 minutes to change the filter and about 20 minutes for fog light.

I opened the filter compartment--there was no filter in it! Do I just buy one and drop it in? 2003 model.

The 2003 might not have the air filter. I know that the 2003+ Bonnevilles did not have them as a "cost cutting" measure. If you don't have the bracket, you won't be able to fit the filter in there. The Bracket is black.. If you just see body-colored sheet metal inside that cover you don't have the bracket to install the air filter.

The actual filter as an option.
Wow!

I know they did that to Bonnies, but I didn't think they did it to Auroras. On the Bonnie, the passenger air filter didn't show up on the sticker. They did sneak it out, but they didn't misrepresent it. I don't recall the 2003 Aurora's having that item removed? Did you own the car from new bufo?

I read the other thread and it seems that the air filter was optional on all 2003s!
