I am located in Saskatchewan Canada where the temps dorp down to – 40 C. We had a couple of cold weeks when I was driving my 2001 Aurora, the alternator light came on about five times with the lights dimming way down. I was sure that I had a voltage regulator or alternator problem. The weather has warmed up and no more problems (the snow is melting today). I think that the problem may have occurred when the air shocks tried to increase their pressure. I think it was just to cold for the air compressor to operate. If the air compressor’s motor would not turn there would be a corresponding high amperage draw. The head lights returned to their original brilliance and the alternator light went out after less than a minute after it came on. I assume the compressors breaker kicked out. The compressor has worked after the weather warmed up. Has anyone had this problem? Do you think I am on the right track with my diagnosis of this problem? Thanks for any help Kim

Speaking as a 1996 owner ( from air ride suspension hell )I would figger on the compressor fuse blowing if the compressor 'jammed up' Maybe your regulator stuck open until it warmed up, wot with the alternator light coming on and all. Did you notice the voltage at the DIC?

It is a bit of a mystery because the car had been running for about 20 minutes. The lights dimmed and the alternator light came on for a few minutes. The lights returned to normal brightness and the alternator light went out. The entire scenario repeated itself a few more times during the same short trip (about 20 miles). I had similar problems on another short trip on a cold day (-30). Everything has been working OK since the temp has warmed up. Kim
