Hi all, I just foud you guys on the web...I guess I didn't have a reason to search for it. Well, now I do. I have a 2001 Aurora 3.5 with 60K miles and it seems like my axles are getting ready for a replacement. Right after I rotated the tires I started to hear some noise from the front which in the beggining I was associating with the tires. Well, tires would've weared off to fit this lack of balance after 6K miles but they didn't. I also hear now some noise when turnig on a lower speed. It's resembling too much my axles problem from my previous car (Ford) with that only difference that it didn't happen untill I passed the 150K miles mark.
Does anyone know if I can get these axles refurbished rather than from the dealer? Anybody already had this problem? Any other advice?
Please help.

I dont think the axles themselves have gone bad, but maybe a control arm or ball joint?, axle shaft possibly, tore CV boot? Could be your alignment is just bad, or a belt has shifted in the tire. There are a lot of possibilities. www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=239701See if that helps clear it up at all. Welcome! and Good luck

Hi all, Right after I rotated the tires I started to hear some noise from the front which in the beggining I was associating with the tires. Well, tires would've weared off to fit this lack of balance after 6K miles but they didn't. Tires that are out of balance will never wear away to be balanced. The Aurora is quite sensitive to tire imbalance, so if you noticed it when you rotated them, it's possible the tires you rotated up aren't balanced as well. You could rotate them back and see if it goes away. If so, get them balanced on a force-balance machine. Those use real pressure to balance the tire like it's loaded on the road. It's much much better than the typical spinning balance. Noise while turning could possibly be the intermediate steerign shaft needing lube. There is a bulletin for the 2001 Aurora for that, though it doesnt' seem to be as prevalent as it is for W-body cars. The Intrigue seems particularly prone to this. I'm not sure if the 3.5 Aurora uses a similar/same steering setup to the 3.5 Intrigue.

It's very unlikely that your half-shafts would be going in such a low mileage car unless it fell off a building or something. Check for any interesting fluids coming out of the joints in the front suspension, if it looks okay it's probably not the suspension. I had to have my tires balanced twice before the darn vibration went away! Aurora is very picky about that. (At least the '98.)

Thanks for your input. I'll test all of your ideas. I'll also post my findings here as well.
