I am a newbie. I have been watching this site since I was thinking about getting my son an Aurora. Finally found a 97 (sterling color i think) with 69700 miles, gave 5000 even for it. I feel it was a good deal but would like some experts opinions. Car appears to be in really good shape. One fairly deep scratch in the front bumper cover (about 3 - 4 inches long, doesn't look to hard to fix. Had the fuel rail replaced on recall as soon as i bought the car. Other than that the owner (he bought it new) said that he had the dash lights go out once and replaced the fuse and it hasn;t done it since. He thought i might have been the interior light dimmer control. Sorry I type to much. hope my 17 year old son will be happy with this car, I am kind of jealous now that I got it for him. Nice to meet you all.

Welcome aboard hockeydad - you have a lucky 17 year old, when I was 17 the best I could do was an old 125cc motorbike, and I paid for it myself. Sounds like you got a good deal on the car.

Dred is right, they are really great cars, for a lot of people it fits the profile of one's dream car. Your son is very lucky

Good to have you here, Seems like we have quite a few 97's in our little group. Your son in 11 years ahead of me. It's a good car, built like an car should be. Reinforced bumbers and the such. You will sleep well at night knowing your son is driving a very safe car.

I dunno, that's a beast of a first car. I probably wouldn't have trusted myself with it when I was 17

True. But with all it's power it's reassuring to know that is is built well. And it's not a piece of plastic like some other cars. (Saturns and cheap Toyotas)

It's kind of a tradition in my family to get a beater as your first car. (1982 Ford Ranger 4cyl. 4spd.)

To be honest my son is almost 18 (July 29th) and he took out the loan for this car. His first car was a mazda navajo (ford explorer sport basically) He has shown that he can be trusted (so far) so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt with this car. 1st screw up and it is mine. LOL.

Wow, what a nice car to give some one. That's great. What made you consider the Aurora? Do you also have one? Heh, it was my Aurora that got my dad interested in them.

Actually fell into this one totally by accident. My son wanted a seville sts or lincoln mark VIII. A guy stopped by a dealer we were talking to and the dealer saadi that he would sell his aurora. We talked but nothing happened so I called him back after about three weeks and we struck a deal. Tried getting it for 4500 but he was firm at 5000. Seemed like a good deal so we got it. I fell in love wiuth it and so did he. Now I can't even get a ride in it because he is constantly showing it off, legally i hope for him or it is mine all mine.

Hi hockeydad nice car for your son. He sure has a connoiseur taste for cars. I hope he takes it easy with all that power.
My son bought a brand new Sunfire in 95. One month later he lost control of the car on some black ice, hit a hydo pole and totalled the car. Fortunately he and his friend walked away from the accident without a scratch.
He knows now the incident was a result of inexperience in the weather he was in. He had a real insurance mess on his hands as a result.

RADEoN, My son is also paying for his car, when I said I bought him an aurora that i have it is in my name and signed the papers. He is actually paying for the car. Yes Gerry, he has champagne taste and a beer budget. Sorry to hear about your sons accident, glad everyone was ok. That worries me some but he is 18 July 29th and needs to start getting more responsibilities, hope he is up to the challenge.

Kudos to you too RADEoN. Glad to see we have some young people here more interested in fine automobiles, not just little Hondas with giant mufflers and a sound system to match. We have a couple go down my street like that and when I'm sitting downstairs my basement windows vibrate.

So you bought your son, our Radeon, a 1997 Aurora. But he also bought a 1995 Aurora? Or do you have two sons, one that you got an Aurora for, and one that got his own? You really lost me...

I think he is replying to RADEoN, b/c RADEoN said he just bought the car himself... Hockey was just saying his son too bought the car it's just in his name...
I think... correct me if I'm wrong
