2001 AURORA DESIGNED FOR DRIVING ENJOYMENT [/i]
When Oldsmobile began to develop the 2001 Aurora, it set out to completely redefine luxury, and what it means to the drivers in the entry luxury segment. The result is a new Oldsmobile flagship that feels as luxurious on the inside as it appears on the outside.
“Comfort and convenience are the measuring sticks of luxury, when it comes to the interior of the car,” said John Gatt, brand manager, Aurora. “When a driver or passenger sits down in the 2001 Aurora, they will feel like it was designed and built just for them - comfortable, catered to, and with everything they need at their fingertips. That’s how we will succeed with this car.”
Although the 2001 Aurora is six inches shorter than the vehicle it replaces, designers were able to maximize usable space to actually increase the interior room in the front and rear. Inside the Aurora, the new increased space lends to a more open, luxurious feel.
The Aurora’s smaller body also makes it more agile, not to mention more convenient for parking in tight spaces. “This will be

The 2001 Aurora features a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat (the Aurora 4.0L V8 also has a six-way power seat on the passenger side, as well as power recliners and lumbar adjusters for the driver). Conveniently within arm’s reach are the entire driver-oriented dash panel, and the center console - which includes two auxiliary outlets and two storage areas. The ignition switch is conveniently located right on the dash for easy reach.
Sitting down in the Aurora, consumers can expect nothing less than the finest sandstone leather, which is standard in every Aurora. Heated front seats are available, to provide the highest comfort on cold, winter days. The driver seat is equipped with a memory function - with the touch of a button, the seat will revert to a driver-programmed position for maximum comfort.
For easy access to the trunk, the 2001 Aurora features a rear seat pass-through area for items such as skis or lumber.
The World Within Your Reach
Aside from the comfort and convenience benefits, it is important to keep everything within the reach of the driver so he or she can concentrate on the road, not searching for controls. The 2001 Aurora features special steering wheel controls so the driver’s hands never have to leave the steering wheel to adjust the car’s environment.

HVAC fan speed and temperature controls are positioned on the left side of the wheel, with the radio volume control and program seek are mounted on the right. In the spirit of keeping the driver focused on the road, the 4.0 comes standard with windshield wipers equipped with special moisture sensors that activate the blades in the event of rain. The feature also is available as an option on the 3.5.
“Drivers want to drive, not fumble around for controls, switches and knobs,” said Dennis Burke, chief designer, Aurora. “The interior of the Aurora has been designed to keep the driver’s focus where it needs to be - on the road.”
With different tastes come different opinions on temperature settings. To cater to the needs of every passenger, the 2001 Aurora’s climate control system is adjustable on both the driver and passenger sides. The climate control system features a 100-square-inch replaceable filter to remove dust particles and provide clean internal air.
The 2001 Aurora also features a Driver Information Center (DIC) - providing complete information about vehicle systems. With 27 different warning messages, the DIC monitors all major functions, including: fuel range and gallons used; average fuel economy; oil pressure; battery voltage; tire pressure monitor; engine oil and transmission fluid life index; and date and elapsed time.

To help add some excitement to the Aurora’s quiet interior, passengers can simply...turn on the radio. The 2001 Aurora comes equipped with an optional high performance, eight-speaker BOSE sound system. The speakers are strategically placed around the car to offer the highest sound balance and quality - a mid-range in each front door panel; two full-range mounted on the package shelf, and two side-mounted tweeters. The enhanced sound system also includes two rear-door positioned speakers. A 12-disc CD changer is also available.
