I figured instead of going to the last page on that other thread everytime to see if any updates on a meet were mentioned, that I'd make a new thread. So, here's the deal. Lets all figure out some dates and try to get something together, so that a lot of people can go and it can be a good time. I think a few of us were thinking Spring Time to get a meet going, so if we can't get a meet organized by then...then we shouldn't have a meet!

LOL - funny stuff SPRING MEET - the location will be adjusted according to how long everyone is willing to travel. The more members who are interrested the longer I would be willing to travel. A 2½+ hour drive puts me as far west as the MA, NY / MA, CT border and qualifies as a day trip. enter you location here www.frappr.com/auroraclubofnorthamerica

Yeah, and Binghamton is such a happenin' town. There's the weekly quilting party, and the library discussion group, and what I like best, goin' down to the Greyhound Bus station for the spittin' contest. We planned for a year ahead of time last year and got four members and Steven's dad to show at the GM Nationals in Carlisle, PA. We planned for two months the year before on an all New Jersey, PA meet with 10-12 members promising to show. Me and kobalt were the only show ups. Apparently the New England meet has come upon hard times as well. Some of us have come to the realization that maybe this is more of an online chat club than an event club. But I would suggest coordinating with some type of car club meet or race event. The Oldsmobile Club of America has quite a few meets scheduled, but nothing for 2006 is yet listed on their site. Watkins Glen NY or Mid Ohio have big races on road courses, and Pocono Raceway, PA or Dover Downs Raceway, DE have NASCAR events (I know, but it's GM). Englishtown Raceway in central NJ is a large national type dragstrip with many events as well.

LOL! Dan always gets me laughing. Always original posts, but also very true. Im glad we had just the 4 we did though. It was fun jumping in the different cars shotgun and experiencing the different years. But if we had 7 or 8 membesr it would have been a blast. Im definately going for 2006 -- i hope all the other same members can make it with hopefully some new people. We have quite a few more daily posters.
Looking back I just realized, I had that stupid damn headband on all day and I completely unaware of it. Omg, that was a bad habit.

Apparently the New England meet has come upon hard times as well. ... Englishtown Raceway in central NJ is a large national type dragstrip with many events as well. I have to agree with Dan. Carlisle was reasonably close to a lot of people, and a fair amount said they'd make it. Fortunately it was a fun group of folks that did show up, and I had a good time, but the turn-out was pretty weak. And this was at a huge 3-day show where folks might be more likely to travel further (as there is more stuff to do if you stayed there overnight). That said, Englishtown seems fairly central to about 8-9 of us on the Frapper map. And who wouldn't be down for a friendly day of drag racing? See what the cars do on the same track on the same day? It looks like me, Oldsauroraman, and 20InchOlds would have the longest drives (probably about 4 hours). And, check out this karma! I did a search on "old bridge raceway park" and got their website. It was down/not responding, so I clicked on the next link for some info: www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/NJ/OldBridge.htmlCheck out the car at the top of the page, that's the Olds Aurora powered car that beat Ferrari to clinch the 1996 IMSA World SportsCar championship! If you wanted to do it this year, they have a test and tune this Sunday October 30th. Looks like it starts at 10am, and costs $100. The next and last test and tune is Sunday November 20th, it's $40 and you get 3 runs (vs a normal 6). I guess it's a big facility, so it costs more. But $100 is steep for a test and tune. The track is awesome, though.

Oh wow, only $100. Plus gas, that's only $150.

Oh wow, only $100. Plus gas, that's only $150. It's less than 200 miles from you. It shouldn't cost you $50 in gas to go 400 miles. Also, one of the days is $40, not $100. But whatever, I'll refrain from suggesting anything else.

um - 200 miles x 2 for round trip = 400 miles @24 mpg that's just under 17 gallons 17 gallons @ $2.75/gal = $46.75 + $0.50 for washerfluid = $47.25 + $1 for tire wear = $48.25 + $0.50 for oil (estimated) = $48.75 That's it I think
NOPE - it doesn't cost $50 to go 400 miles
However, if you should happen to be running you tires really low on air then the $50 mark could conceivably be reached.

Keep in mind OAman, that you specifically said "Plus gas". That being said, gas prices have been droping but if your tires were low and you were driving against a headwind with your doors open and towing a trailer...
Also, what if gas prices go up pior to heading out to Englishtown; you would have to push the Aurora part way just to stay within budget. Oh sure, you could always draft a semi most of the way but then wouldn't the semi's fuel costs go up; and could the increase in the semi's fuel cost be considered in the scenario.
I think you should just stay home. The whole thing is just to tough to calculate and there are far to many variables. ROFLMAO

BTW, I have made the trip to S. Jersey several times a year for the last 40 years. Your mileage is off a good bit as well as the much lower price of gas in NJ. I'll just chalk that up to your youth and inexperience - esp. since you are older than me!

...Your mileage is off a good bit as well as the much lower price of gas in NJ. I'll just chalk that up to your youth and inexperience. OK, so let me get this straight. gas is cheaper than the $2.75/gal I previously calculated and are you saying that your mileage is higher than 24 mpg or lower than 24 mpg. Please provide all current values for accurate projections. All I know for sure is that NJ is just way to west south/west for me - Wait! - let me calculate it!...

Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
Oh - sorry
I was thinking more allong the line of Stamford, CT to Amherst, MA
