Hey Custom 88, I got a question for you. If this thing goes down ar you willing to make a couple of sets of decals like you made me for my windows as a door prize? Just asking. While were on the subject of door prizes, if any of you have any duplicate Olds/Aurora memorabilia to bring as dooe prizes that would be awesome.

Custom88 probably isn't reading this thread, and IIRC mission008 (who no longer has an Aurora) who runs a sign shop was the one making/selling the decals. Unless Custom banged out a couple sets too. ? Hey aura1, I've gotta know... did you see which threads your dad was reading? Just wondered if there was a certain collection of info that proved our worth as a respectable bunch of folks.

This is really cool, should we move this to "national meets"? I think that's generally reserved for official events, like the Oldsmobile Club of America or something else with nationwide appeal & advertising. I'd still call this local/regional, although we are getting a great response from potential attendees. However, right now it's all internet - easy to talk it up. There is a large chance that many folks may be interested here but not have the motivation to show up when it comes down to the date (not yet determined). To make this event successful and enjoyable for all, I think we really ought to plan it around some other event or location in the area. This is where you local folks come in, and can do some scouting. If the meet doesn't actually occur in Aurora, IL, it ought to at least be close so the photo opportunity exists. It could be an actual festival of some kind, so there are other things to do... or a park/forest reserve, so there are other things to see... etc. We could just have a big picnic & barbecue, or make it into something more formal if the opportunity exists. Let's try to be careful with too much mindless chit-chat in this thread (I won't name names, lol , because new folks might be less likely to jump in a read dozens of pages here if it doesn't seem like a serious plan is being made. So just be thinking about those aspects of the meet, and keep momentum rolling!

Getting everbodies schedules to jive with a festival is not going to be that easy Scotty. Aurora is not known as the festival capital of the world.

Well, Aurora is no Rockford but I did a quick search and found this... www.aurora-il.org/specialevents/events/downtownalive.phpThis is no Rockford's "On The Waterfront" where we draw 300K+ people over 4 days of festivities, but it is something Live music, food, children's area, CAR SHOW, not to mention our own little car show ;D It says they expect like 5K each night and it's free (admission anyway). Have you ever been to this Oldsnut? Maybe this is something for those who plan on staying over could do, sounds like it is a friday night thing. Then saturday we all could get together for a picnic or whatever by the lake. just a thought.

I've been to IL many times for work picking up lease returns so I am pretty familar with the state. So if there is a set date, I'd like to know sooner or later cause I am expecting a little bundle of joy this summer (July 28th) and I'd like to have everything planned out.

I wonder if the car show takes "local" car groups, or would provide lot space? You all catching my drift here? We have friends in North Aurora, so I'd have a place to crash Fri-Sat if needed. And everyone else can hang at oldsnut's pad. LOL ;D

Uhh, that's a little scary Scotty, do your friends have room for me too ;D I don't take up much room! I'll even take the garage.
Seriously, I hope Oldsnut has been to one of these events. They have been doing this for many years there, and I didn't think it sounded too bad. if you were to stay around for Sunday, they also have museums (thinking especially of your kids) and other things too.

Getting everbodies schedules to jive with a festival is not going to be that easy Scotty. Aurora is not known as the festival capital of the world. I would like to bring up one point. I come from a very large family, while most of them are here in Illinois, I have family in California, Texas, Georgia, New Mexico, Arizona and DC. This is immediate family...my siblings and their kids. Some are able to make the trip in the summer, some at Christmas, but rarely all at the same time. The last time we all got together was for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2001! I only mention this because as hard as we try (and we will surely try) we may not find a convenient time for everyone Hopefully, if we pick a date early, that will allow more of us to attend.

Then saturday we all could get together for a picnic or whatever by the lake. just a thought. I have never been to this before, I try and stay out of the downtown area because of the Casino, it could be financially deadly to me. I may be Irish but I think God forgot the luck part with me in regards to gambling. I am not sure what kind of a car show this is. I an call and see if they limit what years are allowed in the show. The lake location I was thinking of is off I-88 between Rt.59 and Winfield Rd. It is beautiful, but I would have to call the DuPage Cty, Park Dist. to get approval to block off a small area for our group. I saw a spot that was covered with tables. I also was thinking of asking my buddies at Walter Payton's Roundhouse if we could have the event in their lot. They are a very good customer of mine. The guys that own it were partners with Walter Payton before he died, they restored an olds Union Pacific Roundhouse in Aurora into a huge restaurant complex. www.walterpaytonsroundhouse.com/Thought Scotty would get a kick out of this place since he is a railroad buff like me.
