i got rear ended last week going to school. It was the first day the roads actually got slick. The road was covered in ice. I was going 30 mph when it was 35mph. A car in front of me was slowing down to turn right so i started slowing down I got down to about 10 mph then i get hit from behind by a 94' Grand Am going 35 mph. I pull over get out look at his car and thought wow the Aurora must be messed up. His car was leaking coolant and busted headlight and his car was pretty smashed and looked bad. Metal got slammed into his wheel so he couldnt drive it. I get to the back of my car and it barley has any visible damage. Just some chipped paint. These Aurora's are built like tanks. I took it in for an estimate and it totaled up to $1600. Another estimate was $1950. This included, Rear reverse light assembly, Bumper Cover, the Y-piece of the exhaust and 2 mufflers. Now I'll be able to put on different mufflers. So if you can reply with your picks of mufflers with the stock exhaust system. Ill post some pictures when i get the time. MpWarrior21

I'd say put it towards a Corsa system, but that's not everyone's cup of tea. Jim's got some nice Magnaflow mufflers on his car. Edit: And of course, glad to hear you and your car came out of it so well!

yeah mpwarrior, lots of auroras on this board have been getting their ****** hit lately, but you are right, they are built like tanks. thats one reason why i like this. 35MPH though, damn, thats gonna do some damage.
the reason it has very little damage at small colisions (5-10mph) is because the aurora bumper panels (Front and back) contain a smart foam material that if hit, it will retract itself and pop back out. It will crack the paint, but thats better than replacing the whole bumper assembly.
If you pop your hood, stick your head in front of the engine bay and look down where your radiator and 2 large fans are, you will see a yellow foam material called "smart-foam" as what i was referring to above. A very good design by GM.
I was rear ended once at 2 or 3mph, by some guy that was very impatient at a traffic jam, and he wanted out into the other lane that was clear. He puts his truck into reverse, and Bump, taps my back so i throw my arms up like WTF you ******* moron? and out he goes, squealing tires. No damage to my car other than a little flaky paint.
Jackass.

Sounds like what happened to omegiac...he got hit pretty hard by an Accord and got out generally scott free.
The rear ends of these cars can take some big impact and get out of it with minor damage.
Time to look at an aftermarket exhaust while yer at it, just like 40 mentioned ;D...and good to hear all went well considering!

The resiliency of the Aurora is impressive considering it is a plastic car.

Last winter I avoided being rear ended simply by making a right on red turn at an intersection where it wasn't allowed. I was stopped at the light at the bottom of a steep hill, looked in the rearview mirror and saw a 1980s vintage ricer going down the hill at about a 45* angle, on a lot of ice. I went through the light at that time. _______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

thats good you got out of the way. dealing with the others guys insurance is a hassle. they are trying to take advantage of me becuase im only 17. They are trying to put the cheap parts on and not the GM parts. But i wont budge ill fight it as long as it takes to get the GM parts.

SupaStealth do the DynoMax Turbos make the car sound like an Import? I am also considering DynoMax Ultra Flo SS. Im not sure what muffler to get if i go with Flowmaster. Jim what kind of MagnaFlow mufflers do you have? I am mostly concerned with sound quality since i can take about any car in my area right now. I definitly dont want it to sound like an import. I want it to sound like a Trans Am or Corvette. Some real American Muscle! MpWarrior21

Hmm, I have no problems with photobucket... you might want to get in contact with their site admins or tech support. They can probably help.

You might want to try renaming your pics. I don't know if photobucket supports long filenames or spaced in filenames???

exact my color too only mines faded quite a bit . a shame costs waaay to much to paint this car. for the factory clearcoat with 10 coats of paint will be around 3 grand.

You’ve got a beauty of a car their MP! I adore that color. Sorry to hear about your accident – I’ve been a little slow lately… LoL anyway as far as exhaust goes… I’d recommend just from personal experience.
1.) Magnaflow set up like JimW’s because his car has a nice little purr to it.
2.) Or you can do what I was planning on doing to my Aurora before it was totaled… ::tear:: which is exactly what we did to our Mark VIII and just have straight pipes all the way back and just pipe cats pipe now that will give you a beautiful sound – a nice powerful purr from the exhaust. Completely ricer free. (also it sorta illegal w/ the no mufflers and all but if they don’t put your car on a jack to inspect it your golden… and in MA they don’t generally look under the car.) It will definitely be the first thing I do to the next 1st Gen Aurora I pick up, because the pure sound running back through those straight pipes is enough to give one goose bumps.
