About how much could I expect to see an EGR valve go for? I can seem to find any prices...

Just a shot in the dark, maybe I am just cheap - I'll go with perpetually poor... anyway what do you all think about going to a car junk yard and getting an EGR valve off an Aurora and just cleaning it and sticking it on mine? Would that work?

apply that same question to sensors, like a speed sensor... Yeah I need one of those two on each side.

If you can find a wrecked Aurora, thats what I would do...are you throwing an engine code? try www.gmpartsdirect.com and input that P/N and see what comes up

I know this question will make me sound stupid, but what would you benefit from replacing an EGR valve if it were not broken? Does it increast backpressure hence increasing HP? Doesn't it just involve emissions?

Its a part of the exhaust gas recirculation system, unused air after the combustion process is reused and its control by the EGR system, no HP gains, but its emissions related and can seriously help your cat converter do its job.
A bad EGR will cause a failure in any emissions testing or certification.

So then, I wouuld assume no benifit is to be had if it's just replaced. Would I be correct in that assumption?

Well there will be a benefil for sure, the car will run cleaner and more effieciently if all the systems are working correctly!

Also, my car has been showing symptoms of it needing to be replaced since I purchased the car. So this isn't something I am doing just to do... a bad EGR valve could also effect the cars idle which one of the other problems I am blessed with. ( but it's still 140.00 part. and unfortunately the only wrecked aurora in my area the engine was already torn through.... my luck eh?
