I finally found the perfect cap! I removed the airbox silencer. Cascade dishwasher detergent rca:99aurora: A better plug is a test plug pictured below available at your local hardware store This is what I used on my truck.... I think it will work for the rora...

If you want something solid to put in there, use a freeze plug from your local parts store. I have one thats exactly the right size.

I am just too nervous it might get sucked into the intake! I'd like to find something that has a small lip on the outside.

It's actually a pretty snug fit. There's also "bumps" on the cap where you squeeze it to remove the cap from the bottle. You can place one of the "bumps" right into the notch at the top of the hole in the intake. You might have to see the cap to understand.

Thats why i use a freeze plug, you can tighten the hose clamp down on it. This doesn't work as well on a '95, but 96+ it works great.

and this does what for performance? It is just a resonator right???

I used a black cap from a BBQ Sauce container and did the clamp method on it. So far no glitches.
You have to remember, (hopefully) there won't be THAT much vaccum to actually pull the bugger in. I just tested it with some firm taps and it didn't budge.
It doesn't do anything for performance but sure does get rid of the clutter (chacking trans fluid, etc).

Hey aurorabrain and/or thinice, could you post some photos of your above-mentioned methods? This topic has been discussed several times in the past, but we've never had a good collection of what everyone uses to block off that opening.

1 gal Gatorade lip... With that hose clamp it ain't gonna anywhere. To get the IAT sensor like that, drill out a slightly smaller hole, apply foam tape to secire it in and force it in...

Cool... keep 'em coming if anyone else has other kinds of caps. I'm adding this to the "Performance how-to's" thread. Also Tortured Soul, I modified your original title just a bit and displayed the photos.

Thanks Scotty! The edited version looks great. The Cascade cap really does fit very well.

I just did mine today. Use a 3.8L (1 gallon) V8 bottle top plastic cap, bought a hose clamp with a slot screwhead 1-5/8" diameter (IIRC), tightened it down, revved up the car, no air leaks. Perfect
The only concern I have is the coolant reservior hose that leads to the radiator is now sitting on a larger hose now that the air box resonator is not there to separate them. Any ideas on how to effectively keep them separated or will it be ok resting on each other?

What diameter is the cap? They make really nice solid brass caps with a rim to use as finger-holds for sliding doors. They also come in chrome. I like shiny brass; chrome is cool too.

I also like cheap and dirty, rooting thru the recycle bin is very cost effective. Gives the underhood a nice touch of red. Hey, its ghetto. Party on Garth ;D
I'll stop by for some pipe insulation, tomorrow 1230 ok?

They should be fine touching. Neither piece removes when the engine rocks and are tough enough for vibrations.

Ebay style cold air intake, needs to be rapped in heat wrap to keep it from drawing all the heat to it. The aluminum piping loves to draw in the heat. You can see the pictures in the Aurora showroom under latest pictures of your car page 39 I think.

I've had the plug fall in the intake duct. The screen on the MAF sensor saved my ass and the car didn't have any problems. When it happened, I was on the highway and slightly speeding up. I felt the engine drop as if the car shut off and then come back on. Once I fixed it, the check engine light came on for a while and when the computer updated it was fine.

I have a '99 I used an empty aerosol can of Old Spice deodorant. It fits perfect! You could even use the stock clamp if you want. All I did was cut it up and make sort of a lip, so it would prevent any way of it possibly being sucked in. I'll try and post pictures later.

i just used the stock 4" intake and put a 4" diameter, 5.5" long KN angle cone filter on it and used a gatorade lid and put the mass air flow sensor through it and secured it into the resonator hole with a clamp.
sounds awesome and removed a hell of alot of clutter. I just had to make a shield to keep the heat away from the cone filter that was all.. Not sure if it has more pep as i havent really tested it that much but it sounds 100 times better when i step on it.

By far my favorite I have seen on any N* and what I run in my Aurora's resonator hole is 2" Test Plug you can find at any Lowes or Home depot in the plumbing department. I like the fact it has a good ribbed rubber seal and the more you tighten the wing nut the tighter it gets in the hole. I also secured it with the hose clamp. I'll try to snap a picture soon.

I just plugged min today but i did it and a ver onorthodox way. I used some foil or metal tape whatever you call it. One layer on the outside one on the inside and put the hose clap over the outside just in case. Worked great didnt budge at all and i had it at full throttle and 5800 a few times after that.

Well o have done this mod on my '95, and I lIke it. I took a bottle cap and fitted it and it was to small, so I took electrical tape and went around it till I was out of tape, than put it in the hole and tightened down the clap and I love the deep sound you get from the intake. Not to loud but I can notice it...

I am just too nervous it might get sucked into the intake! I'd like to find something that has a small lip on the outside. Don't worry right at the throttle body there is a screen (I believe it's the mass air flow sensor or the map sensor), so the it'd get caught in the screen before it'd ever get sucked in the engine!

... Well I must resent my statement. It worked for Idk how long but at some point it popped out not in. So I got lucky, but my wife got all mad when I tore the hole intake apart looking for the cap when it was on the ground the whole time. And I found out I have no screen. I could open the butterfly and look right in.
