www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0503/14/C01-115531.htmThe UAW is really pushing the limits lately under Ron Gettelfinger. I wonder if there's a point where even UAW members themselves will get fed up? They did get pretty agitated when word of Ron's secret plan to push for company-funded abortions as part of new union agreements came to light. Telling Marines they are unwelcome because they support the president... wow...

As much as I disagree with the Iraq war, its not right to do that to the reservists and with no grounds to do so.
Very good point, "import" automobile companies employ thousand of proud Americans, bad form on the part of the UAW.

Well, they do have grounds to do whatever they want, it's their parking lot. However it's just insainly stupid to do something like this. UAW senior management is a political organization that should have better sense for reason too obvious to state.
The fact that they don't is Aurora40's point. This jingoistic viewpoint is pervasive throught the Detroit auto culture, both in management and labor, and a major reason for their losses to "foreign" brands. They just don't have a clue.

I think to the UAW, a foreign car is any car made by a non-union worker. It has nothing to do where it's made or where the company's headquarters are.
The CAW is currently making a push to unionize Toyota plants in Canada. I'm sure at that point, those particular Toyotas will be "domestic". The UAW in particular seems to think every worker should embrace unions, and ever consumer should purchase only union-goods.
I often wonder what GM would be like today if the UAW were voted out by the workers.
