I'm kinda starting to get bored with this site. I like the site and the content/info it has, but its starting to get a little boring. I wish there were a way to make things a little more interactive. Anyway we can explore adding new fun things to go along with the site? There are a lot more people on this site now than when I joined, there must be a way to raise some money or something to improve it.
What draws all of you people to certain websites?

We're certainly all ears for suggestions. However it generally is not gimmicks and features that retains people on forums (though a certain base level of functionality is needed). It's the information and user group. If there's interesting stuff to read, it's interesting.

I am here because this is the best Aurora forum I have ever seen in the almost 5 years that I've had access to the net.

I think the bigest thing is many people don't post on a regular basis. Ther are a handful of us diehards but mostly members pop on to get help with their mechanical or electrical problems. I think as long as we are friendly and welcoming to our fellow Aurora members, it will grow.
I also think it's been a little slower lately because it's summer and everyone is outside or busy enjoying the season. When the cooler season gets here, I'm sure we'll pick up a little bit.
As for making it interesting, I try to attach pictures alot. I enjoy looking at pictures of the cars, the people, the work they do on the cars, etc. I'm working on getting video capabilities to add to it. I enjoy getting to know all of you personally. (My wife thought it was crazy that I knew about Javi having his third baby and Rocket's loss, and the job changes in erw38's life) But it's pretty cool to share in a place you know is safe and supportive.
Anyway, just my $.02

yeah thats true in a way. its a kind of family we got here...we know each other but we have no idea who each other is. you know what i mean? haha Well, as I said, we are open to suggestions. It's my feeling that static things like a gallery or model center or any other such thing will only help short term, but it isn't the kind of thing that makes a site interesting or keeps you coming back. Once you've seen it, you've seen it. Good content and conversations make it interesting to come back to, and that comes from everyone here. I think our cars don't get modded much and no one tests the performance much, which limits the conversations about those types of things (and performance conversations are always more interesting than problem/repair conversations). Getting to know people requires the member base to take part also. We've a chat room, folks try to arrange weekly chats, but no one really shows up in them. Group meetings don't seem to go anywhere. I hope this NJ meet goes well, but I'm glad there's an event there so if no one really shows at least I'll still have fun at the dragstrips. Did you have anything in specific in mind? Or something you enjoy on other sites?

Not too related to the subject at hand, but I always thought this forum would be a great place to have petitions made in order to send to parts companies in order to design and produce parts for our cars. I think that would be a draw to most members of the community, whether it be the ones who come here when they need advice, or its the ones who make this their place to BS on the internet.
I, for one, am partial to posts with polls or pictures. The Aurora of the month program seems to me to be a real step in the right direction.

yeah there have been a few things recently like the FMA and the Chat room that have got this site going good. I agree with shawn tho about the petition thing. there are a lot of companies out there that would do group buys and 1-time sales to people if they are buying in a certain amount. i'm gonna browse the web and see what other sites have that i havent noticed on this site. its definetly a cool site, but i think it could be so much better.

I don't post as much as you guys, but I check in once a while to see what's going on. I would guess that I spend 80% of my "forum" time on another site, 10% here, and 5% each on another two. Here are my *guesses* on why this site may not be as exciting as MySpace-- -Very limited subject matter -Small core membership -Viewpoints not diverse (imagine how interesting things would be if the forum included an Aurora owner who hates the car, votes Democratic, watches Lifetime TV, and came from the Middle East ) This site attracts enthusiastic Aurora owners and sometimes, you just run out of things to talk about. BTW, Auroraboy95 is a great example of a newer member who brings something new to the board. And . . . please don't ban me

Sites have up and downs, it happens.
Member participation is key to keeping things exciting, but even with a limited core group we still do manage to keep it interesting most of the time.
I've suggested things like Top of the Page Header pic contests, Scottydl has started the Aurora of the Month thing, we have the chatroom, I can't really imagine anything else that would "spice" up the site.
Meets always help, its just hard again....its a small core group and we're pretty spread out.

i completely agree with bufo. i think we need a little more controversy on the site. now, by controversy, i dont mean negative, but i wish there were more conflicting points of views. in here it seems that everyone is on the same page with their cars. thats great in all, but its nice to break it up sometimes.
jim, thats what im saying! the FMA and the chat room are awesome! those were great ideas!

;D
Should we be a bit more lax and allow for some more controversial threads? The last thing I want is flaming (or haterade as I tend to refer) to push more people away from the site.

Around the Water Cooler is open for any topic whatsoever... and there's not really any subject that is absolutely banned as long as people can remain mature in their discussion of "controversial" issues.

I think overall staff response has changed since then too; now we handle most board violations or "disciplinary" matters privately, through PM or e-mail to the offender (for lack of a better term). That has its pros and cons... most of the time there is no need to publicly berate/criticize/warn a member, although keeping *everything* quiet serves no deterrent effect to others and may appear as if Admins/Mods aren't doing anything about problematic behavior. Rest assured that is not the case.

Mods and Admins are not on a powertrip here as well. They get thier point across without having to stress thier supreme power. Give respect to get respect I guess. Plus even though I am fairly new eveybody hear is friendly. I am also a member at BC and they seem to have thier own click. Any new people are treated like crap then they have the nerve to card people and ask them to join.........sheesh
