Nice! How do they match up in person? Are you happy with the results?

Yeah, I think the best part about this mod is you can make it look completely stock, although like a lot of people are saying it would probably be better with white LEDs haha, I think I might try clear corners next, if I find the time haha

I'm going to be requesting a rear panel from a 3rd party auto parts place ;D and wanted to know exactly what I should ask them to give me off the Aurora they are parting out so I can do this mod. Is it just the plastic rear panel or is it clips, wires, what all do I need to be sure and get from the yard? Also anyone try the white lights yet? I think the red lights look good but wondering how white would look. where do you guys find the led light strips you used in your Classics? This is the next mod I want to complete

the pics are great. this is such a cool idea, can't believe Olds did not think of it originally
BTW, anyone see my post about getting a string of leds to run off the 3rd light in the back window to get additional light when braking? anyone tried this?

I got the LED from eBay, I just searched " 38" LED ", there isn't much to the lens part, although the lock for the trunk is attached, not sure if you can remove it from the panel or not, otherwise it is just held on by four studs that are secured to the car with nuts, there are also two white clips near the bottom of the panel but these stay securely attached to the panel. Also, there is an electrical connector that I think has something to do with the lock assembly that they most likely wouldn't remove, unless the lock itself is removable from the panel. If it is not, you'll need a second set of keys for the trunk lock if you ever want to open it manually.

Be sure to read the entire original post! All you need to ask them for is the trunk panel and the screws that it mounts to the trunk with. There are four of them, their locations are in the pictures in the original post. I got my LED from a website called oznium.com, also mentioned in the original post. I had a problem with it shorting out a couple months ago and I called them. They sent me a replacement LED free of charge no questions asked. I'm happy with their service.

IIRC the lock cyl is held on with 2 little screws... or maybe that was the Buick.
Hmm, I think it's removable though!

Hmm, I think it's removable though! yeah I would assume it would be, that would be a pretty bad design if not lol one rear end collision and you need a whole new set of locks, i just didn't look into it seeing as I used my original panel

Just finished mine, love it! I want to add another for brake lights. It was actually pretty easy Popping the panel off after removing the bolts was a little hard, no one mentioned the plastic clips on the ends? Oh well, turned out really nice even the wife likes! I ill post pics soon.

The junkyard here has 3 aurora's that still have the tail section on it so if anybody wants me to grab em let me know. I'm waiting for my LED's to come in to do this mod. I got 2 strips to do the brake light and the normal lights will post pics as soon as I get it done.

I'm glad someone is trying the dual strip idea. I'm interested to see if it works... I'm still not convinced that it will brighten considerably even with a second strip being lit. Let us know what you come up with!

bummer, i was really hoping this was totally my own idea when i conceived it. it was when a friend of mine installed a set of LED strips in the seem of the tail gate on his truck with the stocks shaved.
oh well, still an awesome idea either way and now i wont have to try my own experimental method!
