I've been told by GM that my car is not going to be recalled until end of 3rd quarter - they are doing the '96 and '97's first ! I have a fuel rail leak -does anyone know what size hose I can use to replace the leaking plastic tube until my car is recalled ? This is unbelievable - GM knows there is a fire hazard, my car is leaking, and they won't fix it !!!

I would take it in, pay to get it fixed, then when the recall arrives, take it to GM with a receipt in hand and get credited for the charge.
This is to dangerous to just not address, even it if costs you now....

I don't know the size of the tube but I have researched your problem. The Canadian Part No's for the Rail Kit, M/Port F/Injn Fuel (1996-97 Olds) is 12583145. The Seal Kit, M/Port F/Injr (1996-97 Olds) is 17800052. The Grease, Dielectric Silicone (1 oz.) is 12345579. You require 1 of each. US #'s should be similar I think.
The recall is for 95-97 Aurora. Certain vehicles equipped with 4.0 liter V8 have a condition in which the nylon tubing used in the fuel rail construction may degrade & crack. 95 Aurora uses a unique underhood fuel rail that may crack. As you know the cracked rail or return line can result in a fuel leak into the engine compartment.
Your dealer should be doing this change as you require a fuel pressure gauge, fuel line diconnect tool set & injector remover.
If your dealer does not have the parts yet for your 95 the dealer should be doing a temporary fix using old style parts as this is a safety issue.
The GM recall No. is 04014. Work with your dealer first. If no help you may contact Oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537. If no hep there call The North American Traffic Safety Administrations Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
For the rest of us if your fuel rail has the words "GM213M Type F" or "M-Bond" written on the tubing with a dot ink-jet white/yellow printing or is a stainless steel material it will not need to be replaced.
Hope this helps you and those reading.

I find the engine cools off quicker without that big sponge/plastic shield on top. A plastic intake manifold, and nylon/rubber fuel lines etc...I just dont like the idea of 40 degree celsius weather and a 100 degree C engine...dunno if it really does anything, but physchologically (sp?) it does for me.

Yes the recall was on a 95 - 97 issue, although 95 owners are currently being neglected by dealers...

Being a third (?) owner of my car (its a 97) how do I know if I'll be contacted for the recall. So far it has been a non issue for me so it is not that big a deal right now. But I do not want to wake up one day to find my garage full of gas. *knocks on wood* Any suggestions on finding out if/when I will be notified?

Remove the 4 nuts (1/2") holding the large silver plastic cover onto the engine and you will see the fuel rail feeding the injectors. I've had one plastic hose replaced with a rubber hose while I wait for the '95 recall. If you smell gas at all this is what is probably leaking - remove the cover, start you car and you will see it right away. I hate ethenal.

Hi erw38, makes no difference if you are the 3rd owner. If you are in Canada call 1-800-263-3777 to update your owner name and address. This is the GM Customer Communications Centre. They are open from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm est. If you are in the US contact Oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537. Once you have your name and address updated any outstanding recalls or future recalls will be mailed to you directly .

Jim I don't know if removing your cover will do much. I'm sure these cars run fine in California and Nevada, etc with the cover on. I believe the cover is there to help keep road dust and dirt off the top of the engine. Mind you I guess if your really particular with detailing your engine on a regular basis it would be ok .

As I figured Gerry, however its more physcological and a preference thing! Pics however Ok this one is the top of the throttle body with rubber covered fuel lines. The FLAMMABLE gives it away My thumb moving one of my 2 coolant hoses, you can see the rubber tube connecting to a metal (stainless) tube, one seems to run along the front of the intake manifold, the other runs underneath? 3 fuel lines clearly marked, forgive the dirt Fuel line schreader valve, this must be were you relieve pressure in the fuel lines Another fuel line pic Ok this is to the left of the manifold, between the power steering reservior, the tag sez Rochester and it rubber wrapped stainless steel

GM seems to have a thing with plastic that leads to evantual failure. I'm glad they got in right on my 96/97 Aurora (I got lucky because of my build date in Nov 96). Those pics I took with my new digital camera with the macro zoom setting. Should be easy anyone here viewing to determine what is what

I guess I wont get a recall notice, because the fuel line at covered in rubber. So I am assuming that they are stainless.

When I bought my '95 Aurora a year ago on ebay, I also got a 24-month, 24k mile warranty from the credit union along with the loan. It came in handy when the fuel rail sprung a leak on June 28th, and I'm hanging onto my receipt for the reimbursement of the c-note deductible, like the Olds CSR said to, as well as my own records. The original recall said that '95 Auroras would be added after sufficient replacement rails were available, along with three cadillac models: DeVille, Seville & Eldorado. Right now, there's a new stainless steel fuel rail (kit part#12499781) in place of the oem nylon piece-the peace of mind, not to mention the lack of strong gasoline odor in the cabin, is well worth it!

I know this is 5 months late. Owners of 95s are not being ignored by GM on this recall. I had mine fixed in May for free and then had the recall done in Nov. I had the recall done at a caddy dealer.
