I went out side today to take a pic of the FPR in place. When I pulled off the engine cover only to find that when they replaced the fuel rail (looked good by the way) they repositioned the FPR as well. The FPR used to be on the back left (when looking at the engine) and now the FPR is located on the front left side (still under the cover though). I don't know if the delearship changed the FPR, but it looks very different. So take your cars in to get the recall done and you just might get a new FPR as well. Wish I knew about that before I spent $50 on the dang part!

Is the 98 Aurora included in this recall? After 95-96 the Aurora had vinyl wrapped aluminum fuel lines and rails. At least mine does.

My sons Aurora had the plastic fuel line evidently because these put the new stainless steel one on the 2nd day we had the car, no questions and no hassle. Did not check the FPR however so I can't attest to them repositioning it. Was just happy to get the stainless steel one no hassle. Hate to see my sons car go up in flames.

i called olds to see about the fuel rail recall. As of right now they said they're only recalling the 96 and 97 models because some 95 models are not affected. Yes, the FPR is moved. No, the FPR is not replaced. I did though find out that my rear seatbelts were under recall so i got all new seatbelts for the rear.

Good to know the 50 bucks I spent on the FPR wasn't a waste.

at least you only spent $50 on the FPR. I couldn't touch one for under $85 and that was making me wait for over a week. I checked Autozone, Advance Auto, Hires, and NAPA. I ended up paying $95 for the part plus tax just so I could have it in two days.

This is an interesting thread. I wrote GM using a 'mygmlink' account about any recalls for my 95 and I included the VIN. I have owned my 95 Aurora since 97 and the build date was 10/94, the fuel rail is original. Here is their reply to my question about recalls. BTW, I have had trouble with the rear seatbelt retractors, they don't mention this as a recall item either! "Dear Mr xxxxx, Thank you for contacting the Oldsmobile Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate you taking the time to write us in regards to 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora. We have processed the information on your vehicle and did not find any open recalls. Recalls are vehicle identification number specific so not all vehicles of a model year are affected. If you are experiencing a concern with your vehicle, please visit a dealer. If you were not already working with a dealership another option you may choose to pursue would be to contact your dealership of choice for assistance. If you would like to search for dealers, please visit our Web site and select the "Dealer Locator" option on the tool bar or by simply clicking on the following URL: www.gm.com/automotive/vehicle_shopping/dealer_locator/You may search for your preferred dealer by the dealer name, the city and state or by your zip code. If the dealer is unable to assist, contact the Customer Assistance Center at the number provided below or feel free to write us again. Please refer to request #1-24xxxx on any communication. If you should need to contact us in the future, simply reply to this message or call our Oldsmobile Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-442-6537. Customer Relationship Managers are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time. Again, thank you for contacting Oldsmobile. Sincerely, Lynda Hoppman Customer Relationship Manager Oldsmobile Customer Assistance Center For more information regarding the maintenance and care of your vehicle, please visit www.mygmlink.com/main/US/en/gm/home?source=occallctr. Is there an open recall for the rear seatbelts on the 95's? Thx, Dave

From the National Highway Traffic Safety Administraion website, nhtsa.com

It helps to call Olds at their 800 number and talk with a live person. There are recalls out there, but sometimes they do not have the necessary(sp?) parts in your area. Often times, when you call them, they will acknoledge the recall and call the delearship to make an appointment for you. This will not only help you by getting the necessary repairs done, but will also "force" GM to ship the parts to the delearship that is goin to perform your recall work.
To make a long story short, call Olds customer support and get it taken care of.
Good luck
Elan

This recall is a little tricky. I called the Olds dealer. While the 96 and 97 Auroras have been recalled for the fuel rail leakage, the 95's have not yet been. They have stated that sometimes the NHTSA gets a little ahead of itself. The reason "they are telling me" that the 95 has not been recalled yet is because they are more than one manufacturer for the fuel lines and only some of the 95's are affected and will be recalled. They did tell me that they plan on recalling the "certain" 1995 models this third quarter. My car was also built 10/94 and after I gave them my VIN number, they said I had an open recall for both rear seatbelt retractors which was good since both of them were stuck. My advice would be to call O'Daniel Oldsmobile at 260-434-4230 and give them your VIN to see the open recalls. If there is any, they can call your local dealer to tell them. While my seatbelt problem is solved, I hope this recall mess gets straightened up. I can tell when lifting the engine script cover off my engine that certain pieces of new cut hoses have been put on to replace the leaks in the hoses. While some sections are hard plastic, other sections are rubber hoses clamped on. Im in desperate need for this recall.

Today Lynda Hoppman (Customer Relationship Manager) left me a voice mail. I was surprised at how cold and terse it was. There is little empthy at Oldsmobile for this fuel rail issue. She stated in a scolding tone that the recall is vin specific and my car will not be covered (10/94 build). She insisted I see the 'dealer' with any other concerns, her tone tells me she no longer wanted to deal with the situation. Trouble is, there are no dealers left in my metro area, my Old's dealer now sells Kia's and when I mentioned a trade to them I got the 'rolling eyeball' look. I think we are stuck with these cars, I was seriously considering buying a parts car Aurora off ebay cause some are selling for $1,500-$2,400 lately. I'll give GM a call tomorrow, I am a patient man but I now need to vent, bigtime!!

tsk tsk...some people in customer relations need a crash course on public relations. Its to bad it forces owners to consider selling their cars.
Its one thing to be patient, its another things to be treated wrongly by the corporation that you make a big ticket purchase from.
Good luck with whatever you do.

i still think it would be worth calling the number i listed even though you don't live around here because if they tell you something is covered, id bet they make a call to the closest place to get it covered. They seem to know alot about the aurora. I sat and talked to the service dept for a long time about the aurora. Although some on here say this car was built for the senior citizen who takes it in the shop to get fixed while out playing golf, oldsmobile, which is still in business where im at, says this is all wrong. The reason there was no oldsmobile emblems on the aurora at first was because GM built this car geared toward the younger businessman that wanted luxury yet performance. GM was hoping it would sell so well that Olds would be immediately dropped and a NEW car company would be formed called the AURORA. THen they would make Aurora ALeros and Aurora Intrigues. I thought it was kinda funny until he showed me the documents. The plan backfired on GM due to the lack of sales the Aurora had, so it scratched the idea of a new car company, Aurora, and started associating the Aurora as an Oldsmobile car until the termination. In fort wayne, there is still an Oldsmobile dealership still selling new Oldsmobile. I think the newer Auroras arent very fancy, personal preference. The outside looks nice, i don't like the back. But as soon as I sat down in the seat, I knew why these cars are done now. The seats in the new auroras are thin and hard as a brick compared to the older auroras nice padded interior seats. THe DIC is much plainer, stereo looks chincy, much plainer inside, very dissappointed and definately not worth the price in my opinion. It didn't appear very luxury for a brand new car compared to whats out there. Its like they knew it was going out of business.

The idea of scrapping the Olds division of GM had been considered since 1993. The Aurora was introduced to revitalize the brand and did for a few years.
It was intented originally to be a Cadillac.
Lets stay on topic though.

It appears the fuel rail recall is now officially extended to the 95 models. This also includes replacement of the plastic fuel return line unique to the 95 models. I have scanned the document and posted it to share will all of you. I personally had made several phone calls in the last month or so to Oldsmobile and had always been told the 95's would not be included, so the change is very recent. The recall also includes a reimbursement form for those who had there car repaired earlier and still have the receipts. www.retrocom.com/9.11.04.jpg

I got my fuel rail recall in the mail today (9/14/04) and have an appointment with Corson Caddy/ Olds on Sept 23. So we'll see how it goes...
My car is 1995, so if you have a 95 be prepared to get recalled too...
