I want to get rid of my Daytime Running Lamps (DRL's). I know there is a pin or capacitor or something around the airbox that I can pull out, and *poof* they'll be gone. But where is it? Anyone got a picture of this seemingly easy fix? It was the same procedure for my old Bonneville, but I could never seem to find that connector either. Any tips are appreciated (Mr. Javidogg, I know you've done this)!

Quote from another site: users.adelphia.net/~jcam/auroratips.htm#_Toc35909382Disabling DRL (Daytime Running Lights) The DRL's are easily defeatable with no cost. On the fenderwall (I beleive the driver side near the front of the car) there is the DRL "resistor". Basically a harness plugs into this resistor in series to run the lights at lower voltage for daytime. Unplug the harness and voila, no more DRL. The regular lights are on another circuit so it won't affect them or the automatic features, etc. You just lose the DRL. You should be aware that according to most studies they claim DRL lowers accident rates, I don't know why but they do claim this. For safety I drive w/my parking lights and fog lights on. Looks nice too. If you can't find the resistor to unplug (it's just a black plastic U shaped thingy), let me know or check alldata...that's where I found mine. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that's what I've read and it sounds EXACTLY like what you do for Bonnevilles. My problem is actually *finding* the resistor, which is why I'd like a picture of its location if anyone has it.

Okay the easiest way to get to them is by taking out your air filter box out, yup the whole thing out and behind it you will see a U style pin attached to the fender wall just unplug it and done, no more DRL's. I like it that way for my Aurora, it looks nicer with the quarter lights on and foglights on. Let me know how it turned out or if you were able to find it. Here is a picture of an Aurora engine bay, just take out the air box were the air filter goes.

This might actually help safe some life in with my silverstars, thanks gents, I knew that was easy. When my intake goes in I will pull the DRLs.

I don't think anyone will have a problem if you disable the DRL's.
I don't think there is DRL POLICE out there, people would say the same thing about my HID's, but I think the POLICE have better thing to do, than to track down people that have disabled their DRL's or added HID's.

I don't think there is DRL POLICE out there, people would say the same thing about my HID's, but I think the POLICE have better thing to do, than to track down people that have disabled their DRL's or added HID's. I just found this on the NHTSA website "NHTSA ILLEGAL LIGHTING CRACKDOWN CONTINUES Continuing its crackdown against manufacturers and suppliers of illegal lighting equipment, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today announced its decision that high intensity discharge (HID) conversion kits produced by a Texas company do not comply with federal safety standards. The owner of ASTEX USA, a supplier of aftermarket HID kits, was ordered to conduct a recall campaign and provide a no-cost solution to the customer. The company is based in Dayton, TX. When installed in a motor vehicle, the HID kits "can be expected to produce excessive glare to oncoming motorists and others," NHTSA said in its decision. To date, NHTSA has investigated 24 HID conversion kit suppliers; all investigations have resulted in recalls or termination of sales. "These illegal lights are a potential hazard to those who share the road," said NHTSA Administrator Jeffrey Runge, MD. "And we will continue to pursue those offering them for sale and violating the law." Companies that sell, import or manufacture non-compliant equipment could face substantial civil penalties, NHTSA said." just thought you'd like to know.

I know CDN cars have to be equipped with DRL's since Dec '90, but haven't seen anything that says you can't disable it once it is in your possession.

Of course, the DRLs did save me from a ticket in South Carolina 2 years ago. They have this strange law "Burn headlights when using wipers."
SC State Trooper figured my lights weren't on because the tail lamps were off. Had to explain DRLs to him (and show him the user manual) and tell him he'd look dumb to the judge when it was pointed out that the car can't move without the headlights on.
