Dude, you got ripped!! AC Delco ign. wire set runs about $100 at any auto parts; AC Delco plugs are about $5.50 ea = $45.00; reconditioned radiator around $100; pressure test the system $280??? come on! Judge all this by the price for antifreeze and did they even use the proper stuff?
Sounds like typical GM dealership thieves, making money from service cause they can't do it by selling cars.
Do yourself a favor, get a new mechanic and stop payment on the check. Then go back and negociate a fair price.

didnt get ripped. that wasnt an aftermarket radiator either...that was GM direct genuine. aftermarkets fall apart and i learned lesson on that one.
i dont know if they used the 50/50 antifreeze like i always used. i doubt it.
also i put it on my credit card. so theres no changing now

What year is your Aurora? Did they use the green or the orange (Dexcool) coolent? Did you ask the dealer if they installed the required GM sealing pellets in the cooling system when they did the service, it's usually mentioned on the order? Is your car running perfect now?

you have 30 days to dispute charges with the credit card company. Just call them up and tell them that you want to dispute charges. They will ask you why tho.............
*edit*
I would call the service manager and find out why they overcharged you on the wires and plugs (among other things). Let him know that you plan to dispute charges and he will change his ways (ie. start to work with you). Afterall, they would rather get something then nothing.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

my aurora is 95 model year bordeaux red. they used the green coolant 50/50 mix that it called for. also i heard that new coolant has lubricants that helps the water pump? is this true?

On a 95 I would stick with the green stuff no matter what anyone says. The two are not compatible and removing every molecule of the green would be a daunting task. Ask your dealer if they put in the GM pellets, they will help seal any small seepage, you do not want your engine to develop a leaking head gasket. As far as comments on the dealer prices, some dealers post their prices for these services, so it will be hard to re-negotiate after the repairs are done. Most GM dealers around here charge list plus on parts, just their way of giving you more of that 'great GM feeling' I guess.

Help me out here guys, my '98 uses the Dexcool orange stuff which is what I meant by the right stuff (thanks for reminding me what the correct name of it is Aurora95). Does the '95 use the old green stuff? And if so when did they change?
Steven I didn't mean to bust on you at all, just commiserating on your high repair cost. Buying a new radiator is certainly your choice and you can get ripped if you buy reconned from a bad shop. I have a shop I have used for 17 years in industrial applications and they back up what they sell. Lets just say your repair shop charged full retail markup on everything you have listed.
erw38 is correct in that you have even more leeway with a credit card purchase in disputing charges. When talking to the CC company just say you were pressured into signing in order to get your car back and you didn't understand all the charges. Regardless I would recommend searching around for a new mechanic. Best of luck.

Just to clarify, the 95's all came from the factory with the glycol based coolant (green). The change to Dexcool (orange) came in 96 or 97 I believe. The controversy with Dexcool is that it appears to create a chemical reaction within a sealed system if air is present. Air can be introduced in the cooling system if a leak is present or develops over time. So if your using Dexcool, monitor your coolant level regularly and investigate any leaks right away.

they put green stuff in. btw dont think i said it before but, this was not the dealer. this is a private mechanic my parents have been using for 15 years and my dad went to high school with the owner and they have been good friends ever since. so i know they wont rip me off, but i can understand the shop has to make profit. if i could do all the work myself i would but i dont know how. how would i get a leaking head gasket?
also this radiator is a genuine replacement because i was asked if i wanted aftermarket that was like 150 cheaper but they fall apart after a while so i said no, give me the genuine GM.

I ordered a radiator of the internet for mine (about 6 months ago) and they said that it was OEM. I guess the were referring to OEM quality. Its worked well for me. *knocks on wood*
Plus, I got a free bag of candy!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
