Hello everyone! I'm wondering if any Canadian Club Members here have any help for me. Does any one have an Olds memo that they can E-mail me or post here that I can copy. I'm at the end of the rope here.
The Dealer tells me that they have never come across the recall nor have they had any one in to ask for this swap to be done. And GM Canada said that this is not a Canadian issue etc etc etc blah blah blah ........ Has anyone here in Canada had this recall done and if so what did you have or use to convince the Dealer to do it under a recall. Thanks for now!!!!

It is quite possible that its a non issue for Aurora/Northstar powered cars built for sale in Canada. I dont have all my service history records stating IF the fuel rails/lines have been changed, and if I recall correctly I cannot remember a CDN owner Aurora going in for the recall. We do have different emission standards and requirements for environmental purposes, maybe Auroras built for CDNs were equipped with a different type of line...I dunno...Im just taking stabs in the dark, brainstorming if you will. You can sign up at www.mygmcanada.com and see what happens from there.

What are the differences between the canadian and US cars besides the DIC codes and owner's manual?

Our emissions requirements may be more/less stringent then US emissions requirement thereby making the entire fuel usage/delivery system different....I dunno, just taking a guess at why its a recall issue in the US and not here.

Are the RPO codes the same for the US as for Canada? All Aurora's were built at Lake Orion in the US - I think the only difference is the metric speedometer and possibly the block heater and heated seats were standard, but that would be covered by the regular RPO codes. My car is a 98 and wasn't covered by the recall anyway.

I'm OK with kilometres and litres and celsius, but the oil pressure confuses me all to hell. What's a kilopascal anyway and how many do you need for the car to be OK ! But I have to use metric because the 'imperial' is in US gallons and that confuses me too.

Just got off the Phone with GM Canada and they said that there are currently no recalls for my 1997. I told him the reason why they are recalled in the USA and he assured me that if there was a concern from our side that THEY would get in touch with me for the recall. So there u have it "Straight from the Top"

1 PSI = 7 kPa. You should be running at about 280kPa +- 100

Yup and it confuses me. My brain works (sort of) in imperial except I like the temp in celsius when I see kilometers to the liter or kilopascals I'm doing all this mental math. So i'm always going from one to the other.

I've heard that. If your fuel rail has the words "GM213M Type F" or "M-Bond" written on the tubing with a dot ink-jet white/yellow printing or is a stainless steel material it will not need to be replaced.

I just looked at my 98 and I couldn't find the number, and most of the rail is covered by a shiny black plastic so it's difficult to see what it's made of, but there is some stainless steel at one end, and this was on it.

dred98 I said in my last post "I've heard that." because I got the "GM213M Type F" or "M-Bond" info from a really old post on A/F which seems to have been deleted so there is no way to confirm the info. Even a search came up with nowt.

chaqueno----DO NOT beleive what GM is telling you....that your 97 is not affected.....i have a 97 also, and, although i dont live in canada, i called GM the first day after i heard of the recall on the news a few months ago...they told me the same thing after they asked for my VIN # "dont worry your car is NOT affected" ...about 6 weeks later i get a letter from GM stating my car WAS affected and to make an appt at a dealer ASAP....as dred98 said, ALL Aurora classics were built in the SAME plant in Orion.....be very careful....dont take what GM says as the final word....if your fuel rails arent stainless steel already, your cars ARE most likely affected in canada as well...keep after GM!!!!! they may be telling you this now, but my bet is you'll be getting a letter to the contrary....in the meantime, be careful of any fuel smells or leaks....if you check out the NHTSA website, you'd be apalled at the number of early Aurora owners whose cars started fire or had puddles of fuel leaking under them
