a few weeks ago, i posted about my oil life monitor saying "change oil now" when the % life was still at 38%...it had been 6 mos, so, of course i just had the oil changed....yesterday, the monitor read "oil life 88%" well, today, it said "oil life 0%"!!!!!!! no messages came on saying change oil soon, or change oil now......the oil was JUST changed a few hundred miles ago....could there be some sort of "short" in the DIC ?? has anyone else had this happen ??

That happened to me when I had some servicing done and the battery was disconnected. I simply reset the oil life monitor and kept an eye on the odometer and oil quality, and I subtracted 20% off the DIC Oil Life.
No problems since then. Did you have any work done recently?

Silly question, did you reset the monitor when you changed the oil? You have to do it manually by bringing up the oil life screen on the DIC then pressing reset for 5 seconds.
The reason I ask is that I was stupid enough to think that it reset automatically, and was wondering how the car knew to do it. Of course that dream was crushed a few feet after the first oil change and a quick read of the manual set me on the path of enlightenment.

I have known for some time that when the battery is disconnected, that can throw the DIC off in all areas. _______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

yes i did reset the monitor to 100% when oil was changed...it read 88% one morning, and then said "change oil now" when i restarted the car that afternoon....battery was never disconnected or any recent work done...so i reset to 100 again and i'll just do what jim said and subtract 12 percent from whatever it reads...its just weird how this has happened to me twice

Wow, I just asked this same question in "Audio & Electric"... I think Marc gave me the answer, as my battery was almost dead when my DIC started acting up. Try checking your battery cables & connections, maybe one is loose.

Good lookin' out scotty. I'll bet ya money marbles or chalk that the battery terminals are loose or corroded. Second guess a dead or dying battery, check the little green spot. (Do they still have these?) Third place would be some other loose wire on the ground or maybe alternator. Very good analysis fellas, I think you're right, and you may have saved RocketV8 a roadside AAA call.
