The only hing that matters for the remote is that the FCC ID number matches what is on the back of the keyless entry module(except the last letter). The part number itself does not matter. Keyless entry module fcc id ends R it stand for RECEIVER. The remote fcc id end T it means TRANSMITTER.
One remote can be programmed at one time to driver one. More can be 'added' however, all remotes must be programmed at one time. Each time programming is done the memory is erased and no previous FOBs will work. You must start over and program all at once in order you want them to be numbered. The first remote programmed is always driver one. Again the part number or the 'driver' number does not matter. The second remote to be programmed will be number two driver. Third will be third so on and so forth.
What everyone is trying to say is just buy two remotes have them programmed at the same time it will cost the same. At that time you may as well have them cut you another key and have two sets of keys. It's always nice to have two or more full sets of keys.
And hey a good way to tell the difference between driver 1 and 2 is a different keychain haha.
HTH.

Went to the dealer this morning to get the key fobs I had (from a salvage yard) programmed and found out something I haven't seen mentioned here. For 2001 2G's, there are apparently 2 remote options, what they call Design 1 and Design 2. I have no idea what the difference is, but Design 1 has a different part #. Of course I need Design 1 for my 01 and I have Design 2 remotes. The Design 2 works for 2001(some)- 2003 apparently. For the sake of recording the info, the part # I was given for Design 1 is 25665575 (and -74) and the # on my Design 2 remotes is 25695954.

Match the remote FCC ID to the keyless entry module FCC ID.

So here is the updated I ordered the key fob off Ebay and just got it programmed and it work. The key fob also don't have any numbers on it but it cost me $45 at the Buick dealership. Also to the person who said that you need 2 key fobs in order to program it thats a lie I only have one. If anybody wants to see a picture of the key fob just let me know and i will post a pic of the front and back of the key fob.

You misinterpreted. IF you have 2 fobs they must be programmed together--you can't add another one later. The new programming erases the old.

And i will say this again I have no need to have 2 key fobs as long as I own any car no one will be driving it but me. Therefore I'm not worried about getting a 2nd key fob programmed.

It is clarification of the process for future readers. There is a lot of muck in this thread. Just because you may only want one does not mean someone in the future won't find this thread and save themselves some money by buying two fobs in the first place and programming them at one time. Does that even remotely make sense, pun intended.

in conclusion Match the remote FCC ID to the key-less entry module FCC ID and you can program one remote only or 2 remotes and if you have one remote you can program second one without losing information from 1st remote . Tech 2 has 2 options under program driver 1 and driver 2.

If the numbers on the remotes don't match the number on the receiver box in the trunk of your car, it won't work. The easy fix, though, is to go back to the salvage yard and harvest the box from the same car you snagged the remotes from. Heck, you might not even have to have it programmed once you install the box. I won't guarantee that to be true, but it's possible because the box was programmed to respond to those remotes when it was in the original car. BTW, the remotes aren't what gets programmed; it's actually the car that's being programmed to respond to the remotes. I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm in a similar situation. Bought a 2001 a few years back without any remotes. Found a 2G at a u-pull yesterday and grabbed the remotes, but when I look the FCC ID is KOBLEAR1XT, which someone posted as their 2003. Is there any chance these would be programmable to my 01?

heha yeh I think we beat that in everyones head now... maybe...
Oh and since some of the 2001 use the same remote as the Classic(KOBUT1BT) it may possible programming can be done by jumping pins 4 and 8(IRRC) just like the Classic. I wouldn't bank on it though.

When I first bought my car they only gave me a #2 remote and then it messed up. So i bought an exact same one on ebay gm/uta 25665575 fcc id: kobut1bt with the same #2 on the back just to be sure it was the exact same. I took it to a locksmith down the street. He hooked up a "tech 2 wire thingy" to my car and it lead to some little machine and then leads to his laptop and ran sum kind of program and presto it worked!! Since we only had the #2 remote at the time the car is only programed to one remote and thats the #2 and the car thinks its #1 because it says so on the DIC (Driver 1). So no, you do not need #1 and #2. Just make sure the gm/uta is the same and the fcc id. That's what I did. And the locksmith must have some kind of special tool or program to do it because it was meant to only be able to be done by dealers. But dealers are stealers. Good luck to you, I was in the same confused situation.

I don't remember seeing an answer to this: If you don't use a fob to unlock the doors, does the car "know" whether to adjust the seat for #1 or #2?

Short answer: No. The keyless entry system must be used. If you use a key to manually unlock the door ( lets say key with FOB 1 ) and the car was previously opened and used with keyless entry FOB 2, the personalization settings will still be set for FOB 2.

Thanks for that. I wasn't positive if the personalization system used the fob code or the chip in the key.

Paul, my '01 4.0 uses K0BLEAR1XT. Build date is 12.05.00, I thought it was a mid year change for all.
