It's for sure not free... I will cost you some cash. I don't know if a locksmith will be able to do it or not, but the dealer will be able to.

Two words rarely spoken in the same sentence. Dealer and free haha.
If the locksmith has a tech ii he should be able to do it. I'm not sure there is anything else out there to mimic the tech ii procedure.
Make sure you get the proper FCCID on the key FOB. Some other 2G guys can help ya with that.

well I did look up the part for the 02 aurora it said the keyless system number would be 25695954 and thats the same number the key fob has. On Ebay it has a list of all the compatible cars and the 02 aurora was on the list.

I'd suggest before you do anything, you may want to check this out a little more. There were always 2 fobs included with the vehicles. One had a number 1 on the back and the other a number 2 on the back. That way 2 different drivers(husband & wife, etc.) can automatically preset their own seat adjustment, radio channel, volume, etc. and the car would automatically adjust to those positions depending on which fob is used to unlock the doors. I only received one fob(#2) when I bought my Final 500 used and would like to add the other fob. It does take the fancy controller GM uses to do this and it requires BOTH fobs to be reprogrammed to the car. I was told it will be about $70 for the programming from the dealer. If you need 1 fob, you can expect this. IF you need 2 fobs, I would suggest purchasing both of them now, otherwise you'd be required to spend the reprogramming charge again if you do the second fob later. I'd just verify with a dealer to clarify things. Just my 2 cents worth.

So the YouTube videos showing how to reprogram GM fobs with the same part number won't work on Auroras?

So the YouTube videos showing how to reprogram GM fobs with the same part number won't work on Auroras? It works for the Classic but not the 2G.

3.5l keyfob is different from 4.0 so make sure you buy 3.5l keyfob not for 4.0 otherwise it wont program.

Where did you get the information that a 3.5 key fob was different than a 4.0. That would shock me if true!

My 2003 4.0 fob is part number 25695954, FCC ID KOBLEAR1XT and is all over eBay & Amazon as fitting just about all GM cars 2001-2004. I don't know if mine is original to the car--bought it used. If yours is different maybe the TechII can program the car to accept either signal?

The FCC ID is what matters. It must match what is on the RFA module on the Classic and I believe the remote control door lock receiver on the 2G. Receiver FCC ID end in R and the transmitter ends in T. Example from my Classic: Some supplemtal pictures below to accompany Bob's post. I just had to get the FCCID off the RFA(RKE on '95) module in the '98 a few days. No remote when I bought it. It mounts with two push pin retainers. FSM pictures show the RFA module on the driver side under the rear deck if you have Bose. I don't know the accuracy of that. Mine is Non-Bose and mounted on passenger side of under rear deck. Mount Location:FCCIDThe FCC IDs actually do not match though. The FCCID: KOBUT1BR on the RFA module should take a KOBUT1BT remote.

Two words rarely spoken in the same sentence. Dealer and free haha. I found this immensely funny. Never really thought about it in that specific way but you're right. "Dealership" and "Free" have NEVER been in the same sentence before.

I talked to a guy at the Buick dealership and he said the key fob should work without have both 1 and 2 as long as the numbers match up for the car and the fob. It also said it cost $37 and some change to program it.

whichever one I get (I'll check as soon as it arrive at my house)I'll make sure its programmed to what it supposed to be. When I get stuff like this I wanna make sure its done right so I ask alot of questions cause I don't want to get it and they mess something up then I cant use it.

I've read elsewhere on the 'net that #1 and #2 have different part numbers (#1=25695954, #2= 25695955 for 2G) but are actually the same inside. They are pre-programmed with a huge number of codes so what you end up with is somewhat random and this is why your remote doesn't unlock the Impala parked next to you. The number on the fob is only there for your convenience--it doesn't matter which one you buy.

Buying two matching FCC ID remotes for 'his and hers' only saves having to pay for programming twice if you want/decide you may want another remote for driver number two('hers') in the future. Not much hassle in it. Nice to have two complete sets of keys anyways. I believe you can actually have more than two remotes but again they all must be programmed at one time.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm in a similar situation. Bought a 2001 a few years back without any remotes. Found a 2G at a u-pull yesterday and grabbed the remotes, but when I look the FCC ID is KOBLEAR1XT, which someone posted as their 2003. Is there any chance these would be programmable to my 01?

I'm almost certain that the '01 thru '03 were the same remotes. As mentioned before, if a remote needs to be programmed, they MUST program both remotes at the same time if you have 2 remotes.
