I have a 01 aurora 3.5 with 205k "owned since 150". It randomly wont crank. i hear nothing at all. the battery is fine, and its done this since day 1. If i turn and hold the key it eventually starts and the RPMs jump even though the engine isnt reved that high. i have a crank sensor and cam sensor code along with misfire. I was told it could be the starter. Im not sure what it is. sometimes it drives a little rough " jerking when it shifts/ rough idle" but other times it drives like its brand new. Ive decided to keep this car and looking to fix all that i can. Thanks. also it randomly wont stay started unless the pedal is pushed. and dies when its released. then it starts fine. Any suggestions?

i have a crank sensor and cam sensor code... Replace these. Likely cause of no start issue and possible cause of misfire. When did you last change the spark plugs?

according to the dealership they changed the spark plugs weeks before i purchased. however they didnt tell me that the fuel level sensor was retarded. i thought i had a full tank, ended up highly dissapointed. no warrantly paid in full. its starting to do this everyday. i would like to fix myself if the stupid relearn proced. wasnt required. could it possibly only be the starter?

Yeah, I've heard the 3.5 burns more oil than it leaks, the 200k probably has a lot to do with that. But you're right, that's back burner for now.
I don't think it's your starter. I'd concentrate on the crank and cam sensors. Relearn isn't always required but there is always that chance...

ok i lifted the car to find starter and sensor behind it. not sure if i did but its a mess under there. oil almost everywhere. it didnt look this way the last time i lifted the car. im not sure if this is the starter. trying to get to the sensor. maybe i should have someone do this for me? just dont want a shop mechanic to blow up and make a big deal and tell me i need certain things or else my car will explode. is changing sensor a hard job?
