I am looking to buy a replacement oil dipstick for a '96 Aurora. Anyone know of a source?

Nearest salvage yard is probably your best bet.

I have tried everywhere I can think of. It apparently is a discontinued item from GM. Was hoping someone knows of an alternative or a fix, at least. The problem is the plastic end of the oil dipstick came off (not in the engine, thankfully). But I can't tell the engine oil level now and the 4.0 uses oil. It has 257,000+ miles.

I'm going to have to agree on getting it from a salvage yard. I don't see many other options.

I think a junkyard would be the best option. If I had seen this a couple days ago I would have grabbed the one from my parts car. I hope you are able to find one!

Hey MHubbard, I tried to help you out. I checked Ebay and even called "Moradparts.com." You're right...very hard to find. None of them have it. Not sure where you live, but check craigslist. I know by me, I sometimes see Auror's especially first gens as parts cars listed on there. But like the other members said, Salvage yards should def. have something.

If the Northstar V8 uses the same dipstick as the Aurora, it should be easy to find in a yard. There were many more Northstars built than Auroras.

According to these guys, the part # is GM 12554201. And they have it! ...for 35 bucks, lol! I'd still call first. Here's the cross reference if you're gonna go to the yard; Cadillac Concours 1998, 1999 Cadillac D'Elegance 1998, 1999 Cadillac Deville 1998, 1999 Cadillac Deville Touring 1998, 1999 Cadillac Hearse 1998, 1999 Cadillac High Luxury 1998, 1999 Cadillac Limousine 1998, 1999 Cadillac Seville 1998, 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999
