I'm currently having issues reading codes from the ABS system on this classic 98 aurora. Reads and clears codes for check engine and also test charging system a.k.a alternator system but fails to connect to abs system. Any of you guys have any experience with this? I have checked and replaced the fuse (30A) up front in engine bay labeled (ABS MAIN)and checked the 10A fuse on driver side labeled (ABS).

just answered my own question... after downloading and reading the manual on the pc, I verified that abs scan support only works for Vehicle Applications - ABS 72 OBD2 OLDSMOBILE Model Year Model Year Alero 1999-2004 Cutlass 1997-1999 Aurora 2001-2003 Intrigue 1998-2002 Bravada 1996-2004 Silhouette 2000-2 ... time to sell this sucker. i do suspect that my front passenger wheel hub needs replacing. was under the passenger front side car looking at the speed sensor and other things... what the heck is all this?

So i took it to a local shop. They attempted to run there own scanner to retrieve ABS codes and their equipment failed to "connect". They checked the fuse up front and checked the fuse boxes under rear passenger and noticed only one fuse was blown. A Maxi type fuse 30amp marked on the diagram as ELC *Electronic Load Control* ... they replaced it and was blown within seconds.the mechanics theory is that the ABS pump and ABS module are not receiving voltage and may need replacing. What do you guys think?

ELC is your rear auto leveling suspension. Without looking at the FSM I do not believe that would be related to your ABS issues.

Probably going to need a TechII to read the ABS codes. Have visually checked all the wheel speed sensor wiring? Disconnected checked pins for corrosion then apply a little di-electric grease in them?
There are three ABS fuses and two relays BTW.

All that gunk is more than likely oil, these engines are notorious leakers. Car is fine as far as reading ABS codes goes, most scan tools aren't going to support it (mine included). Sall is probably right, would need a TechII to retrieve them.

Isn't he using an Innova? Let me clarify my statements while I'm posting also haha; most scanners will read ABS codes, the lack of support is for the Classic Aurora itself and not a condition of the scanner. IIRC the 2G is supported on mine just not the classic.

Right. I've not seen any I remember capable of reading ABS codes on the Classic. Not saying there isn't one out there somewhere though, just have never heard of it. Like this Actron CP9580A claims 96-03 Auroras but says 'Partial' for ABS. Whatever that means.

Haha so I guess by partial they mean '01-'03.

Looks like your ABS module likely went kaput with all those codes. It is on the driver side strut tower. Might seat and reseat the connections and check the power and ground. Do you know what the model number was on the scanner?

Yeah, you're making me want to re-check the number on mine now because that looks exactly like it and mine didn't read ABS codes

Do you know what the model number was on the scanner? Thanks sall I'll try and check power and ground and reseat the connection. Access by removing front driver side wheel? I dont have the model number to their scanner but i will make a trip there wednesday and ask about the model number... Because i am also interested in that abs scanner lol

It says it works on 96 and 98 for ABS but not 97/99... but works for all 2Gs. OP has a 98. actron.com/sites/default/files/cp9580a_refresh_coverage_chart.pdf

Maybe that's it. Although I do have a '98. Forgot to plug it in yesterday, I'll see about doing it after work today. Think last time I updated the scanner was 2012 so it may have out of date firmware

I did remove the connector from the abs module *drive side strut tower mounted*then cleaned, and reseated the connection. Are there any more modules? Abs and trac light remain on.

Did you unplug a wheel speed sensor to test?

Did you unplug a wheel speed sensor to test? No but the scanner has options to choose which DTC's you want to read, Engine, ABS, and I believe one other option were listed where as before I don't remember ever seeing the option for ABS....maybe I did have the scanner when I still had my '99 (as this scanner was supposed to read them for '98 and not '99) No codes or pending codes for me by the way lol
