Howdy y'all.
2001 3.5 124,000 mi.
So I was driving down the road and suddenly I lost about 75% of power and the tach dropped to 300 or so before coming back up slightly. I could dive. steer etc, but it had very little power and was running rough but not outrageously so.
Had it towed and the computer was giving a "Intermittent cylinders misfiring" so something like that. Nothing definitive apparently.
My mech changed the plugs and boot as he said they appeared to in very bad shape. He drove it about five miles and it was running smooth as glass. I drove it about 4 miles and felt I got off lucky before it did the exact same thing again.
My mechanic clearly doesn't know what is wrong with it. I called the local GM dealer service department and they can't even look at it for a few days but they also said that didn't sound familiar at all.
Thoughts?

Sounds like he is on the right track. Misfires could be a lot of things, fuel, air or spark. Maybe the coil packs are bad?

Thanks.
My mech also said when he had it the first time, that it might be the "coils" and he looked around but couldn't find the parts as they've quit making them!?!
Again...Thoughts? It's back in the shop, but looks like it will be hit or miss. Any suggestions will help.
P.S. I love my Aurora. Help me save her! ;-)

...My mech also said when he had it the first time, that it might be the "coils" and he looked around but couldn't find the parts as they've quit making them!?! If it is a coil pack, Delphi GN10521(GM#1104074). Amazon or RockAuto for a new one; the online parts houses that have them think they're made of gold, lol! A salvage one might be hard to find. Only used in the '99 and up Intrigue and the '01-'02 Aurora 3.5...

Would the multi meter test of the coils reveal a problem? At the worst, on my Lincoln I did something similar, buy one coil and keep swapping down the line until u make it run better.

Well, the 2Gs use a COP "cassette", basically 3 or 4 coils and a ICM, one per bank. You could probably pull the ICM and ohm the individual windings. Only way I know of to test the entire assembly is, you guessed it, a Tech 2...

I ordered two of these from RockAuto and I noted on the confirmation that it lists it as being for 2000 Olds Intrigue. No problem, a lot of parts are interchangeable, but on a whim I went and looked up the part number specifically for the Aurora and I get a different part number and price. Specifically, "DELPHI GN10156" as opposed to the "DELPHI GN10521" noted in your post. LINK: www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1364172,parttype,7172 Can someone please confirm I ordered the right part? TIA.

Thx.
I cancelled the 10521 and ordered the 10156.
I appreciate the prompt reply.
Best...

DELPHI GN10521 is the entire cassette, coils and ICM (#2 & #3). No idea why 10156 is more expensive than 10521...
