Anyone know where I can grab the actual shifter position signals from(inside the cabin)?

Are there "shifter position signals? I would expect it's simply a mechanical lever in the tranny driven by cable from the shifter itself?
(Can't imagine what the mad scientist has in store for those unsuspecting signals if he DOES find them ... ) <G>

Well, I don't know for certain. The linkage at the trans would have to ground a wire for the reverse lights to come at the very least. I am installing my software now because I don't feel like flipping the paper manual. First world problems I guess. I was hoping to get an actual signal though for my shifter surround console project.

I would wonder if the signal passes through the memory module (at least on newer classics) since the car tilts the side mirror down in reverse.

It would be separate for each position. I didn't have a chance to look into it. Apparently the software doesn't like Windows 10 or my laptop. I upgraded clean install from XP SP3 to 10 Pro slave install. I hate Windows. I may not actually need it, but I thought it would be neat to move the position indicator to the cluster area.

That's one thing I do wish the classic had. Also, that GIF is among my favorites haha.

That's one thing I do wish the classic had. Haha, I wish I could get rid of mine! Just seems redundant to me, indicator on the cluster and one on the shifter, a "gated" shifter. LOL! sall, is there any room in the console for a linear position sensor?

The transmission has a switch in it that send basically a three-bit code to the PCM. You could tap these to get exact shifter position. My transmission break-out box showed it with LED indicators, as well as shift solenoids etc. Check the transaxle chapter of the PCM for data, I don't have it handy.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't the chance to look in the paper manual. If I can't grab them in the cabin, I don't think I will mess with that option it. Tigger ideal is viable as well
I would love to go with a tablet to replace the gauge cluster. I'm not sure of a solution for gas gauge though. Time is something I have not had a whole lot lately!

The signals are available at the PCM connectors, inside the cabin. They're labelled Range A, Range B and Range C.
