Just in case you missed it last week, in the first 24 hours Tesla took 198,000 early orders on the new Model 3. For comparison, total Aurora production for 8 model years (1G and 2G together) was 208,000. Base price of ~$35,000, similar to our cars when they came out.
Of course the early orders had a refundable deposit of $1000, so they're not really "sold" yet. And, Mr. Musk is re-thinking how to meet demand as the pre-orders kept on climbing after the first day. Looks like a huge cash influx for Tesla over the next couple of years.

I wouldn't. It's ugly, not only compared to the Model S, but compared to an average car.
The Volt is the same amount of money and supported by an actual dealer network, not mall stores. And the new one is actually sorta attractive.

I like the Volt set up more myself. If I understand you can charge it at home then fill the gas tank and drive across the country because put simply it has a gas engine which can run an alternator!
That type of flexibility is important to me and is essentially proven tech as trains run off diesel generators.
Still, wait for these things to become cheaper. Electric motors put out some power.

The volt doesn't have a sub 6 second 0-60 time, and it's not full electric either. Also I'm not so sure how much I trust that dealer network after their recent safety recall problems.

The Model 3 won't have a sub-6 second 0-60 time, either. The safety problems were caused by drivers as much as GM, which, I might remind you, also made our cars. And not-full-electric is actually an advantage, until there's an actual supercharger infrastructure in place. The Volt still has higher mileage and lower emissions than nearly any 100% ICE car.

Why not go full electric? With respdct I say I can hop in the nearest Volt and drive to New York just like my MarkVIII. It will have to stop at gas stations, not stop and recharge. I am also not worried about being able to plug it in if I take it camping. Having the mini gas motor along to charge the system and keep it running is proven technology which makes the Volt as usable as my Aurora. Far as GM goes, we are all driving about almost 20 year old GM vehicles. There were more normal choices than an Aurora but Achievas and Grand Prix's in the $2500 price range bored me. I wanted this bucket of interesting parts we call Aurora with its flaws. Tesla vs GM? Man, I hope Tesla makes it. It would be great to have 3 American Auto manufacturers again and some fresh blood. I will have something intelligent to say about Tesla reliability in 2016 come 2021 and 2026 lol.

I just happen to think everything they've come out with in the last 5-6 years or so is atrocious haha, at least most of the Chevy models. Understandable that you wouldn't want a Tesla for road trips. But that's not what I'd be using it for. I'd pretty much be using it for my day to day driving throughout the week. The weekend? That's what the Aurora would be for

You may want to look at CR's reassessment of the Model S. Also, for the record, I'm still driving with my original head gaskets, and my oil leak was solved without removing the engine. 2. I'll believe the 0-60 times when an actual Model 3 is tested. Which won't be for two years. 3. That's what the Aurora would be for these are exactly my thoughts. the tesla would make a great commuter car. electrics ate not quite ready for long distance trips. once i can drive a full 12 hrs in an electric car, ICE cars will still have a place in my garage. most of the styling if the model 3 is great. i would just tweak the front and make it a hatchback like the model s. there are some renders making the rounds online with a changed front, and a several of them look really good. once these actually start hitting the road, i would definitely consider getting one as a commuter.

With a tweak of the front and a hatchback, it would still have the profile of a Mazda 3. If I wanted butt-ass ugly, I would just buy Japanese and be done. And save a pile of money in the process.
