So I had issues with the engine not starting again this morning - it doesnt crank or anything just clicks.
After a few tries, it finally started & i noticed the Check Engine Soon light came on for the for the first time since i got it little a year ago.
also check oil & change transmission fluid message showed on the console. I check my oil level religiously & it's still at max.. I havent checked tranny fluid level yet - wanted to make sure.
Pulled the error codes on my acton:
66 cruise control engaged. I realized i left cruise control on my last drive and turned it off. code hasn't cleared yet.
88 Torque clutch not engaging
p0117 QDSM #3 output open or shorted
I didn't drive it yet just left it parked to be safe. Any ideas what I should do?
Should the fact that it's a bit cold in phoenix this morning cause this issue?
Also, how do i clear the codes so i can test again?

correction - both 'change oil' and 'change transmission fluid' messages came on at the same time on the console display.. which is odd.

It sounds like your battery went really really low and it reset your warning messages. Unplug your battery, remove it, charge it up, bring it to autozone or an autoparts store and test it. If its good, put it back in and try startin the vehicle and tell us what you get there.

The generic P0117 is a coolant temperature sensor code. You might have a faulty sensor/short in the wiring. I could see the PCM tripping the "check oil/change transmission" warning messages if it thought the car overheated due to the sensor being faulty or you having a short in the circuit. A misreading from the sensor could cause the engine to give incorrect fuel trims I believe, which would also cause a non-starting issue.
BUT, since the car isn't even cranking I'd also say that you should start by at least testing/charging up the battery because as was said, the low voltage can do funky things to the PCM.

battery turned out to be low & needs to be replaced. Looks like it is an original 1995 AC Delco battery.
By the way, I managed to reset the codes and the 66 and P0117 error went away. I reset the oil/transmission fluid change message.
CEL light still comes on - I can see it flashing back on Immediately when i try to reset it with my Actrom CP9145 scanner. The only code that remains is:
P088 (E088) .... Torque converter clutch did not disengage when commanded OFF by PCM
Though my Actron scanner says the Check Engine Light is NOT on.. even though I can see that it is on.

Interesting. If I were you, I would drive it for a few days, see if anything is out of place. if the light is still on check it. If its still the same code, clear it. If it still comes on, disconnect the battery and reconnect. Basically, if you put it in park, and press the gas, your car shouldnt move. It sounds like your transmission is having trouble disengaging, if the code is to be trusted. Check your transmission fluid, too.

I also just looked up P088, that has to do with Fuel System pressure. It says the code can be caused by an improperly working pump, a bad fuel system pressure sensor (not sure if auroras have one) or kinked lines that cause increased pressure. It can give you some weird rich running conditions.

Had some random no start / hard start issues on cold mornings but first let me tell you about my spring / summer experience with a local lube shop. I'm not far from Vegas at a slightly higher elevation, so I thought I'd be fine with 10W-30 all year long. When I first got the car someone mistakenly put in 5W-30 and almost burned my engine up in the 100+ degree early summer heat. After that wrongful oil change my car also threw both 'change oil' and 'change transmission fluid' messages at the same time on the console display.. even though I had just reset the oil life indicator myself (great lube service, obviously). The car felt like it was either going to stall or explode and threw some codes - which I never checked as the 10W-30 resolved them on the next start up.
Back to my resolved cold start issues which could relate if you're experiencing issues around cold desert nights. Turning the key forward to let the fuel pump prime seemed to help with actually starting the car in the cold, but the starts were still really spontaneous and rough in regards to rpm and delayed turn over. IMHO, the problems were fixed by changing my oil to a blend of 5W-30 and 10W-30. I'd suggest a blend over straight 5W-30, considering it can get real warm real fast where we live but not cold enough usually to require straight 5W-30 or 0W-30. My symptoms were cranking but no start, low rpm / high rpm, or just high rpm on startup - no codes throughout the issue. Hope this helps, if it's even relevant.
