So I have an Oldsmobile Aurora 01 and it's had a power steering leak for about a month...last night pulled into a parking space and lost all power steering and heard spewing looked underneath the car and every drop of power steering was spewing out from like 4 directions...now car is obviously not drivable I have replaced my shocks and new brakes and rotors on front tires..I'm not afraid to get dirty. How do I know if I need a new rack or just a line cheapest rout is better! Please help anyone!!

Do this: refill the P/S system. Jack the car up, put it on jackstands. Don't rely on the jack itself to hold the car up. Then start it & have someone turn the wheel back & forth. The source of the leak will show fast that way. BTW, I'm betting on the high pressure P/S hose going bad.

I had all too much similar problems.. replacing the high pressure hose is a *****, but can be done. The return line has a nice workaround that makes it easy. Is it leaking on the passenger side? If so, almost most definitely the high pressure hose. If its on the driver side it could be where the line connects to the rack or the low pressure hose rusted out (but shouldnt be spewing). I also had an issue where my pump leaked like a mofo out of the bearing area.

Yes it is passenger side I had it towed driver said sounds like the high pressure hose...do I need to take off serpentine belt...I've never done power steering anything lol iv been trying to watch videos but an 01 Aurora they have like one or two videos not very helpful. Mine is a V6 3.5 luxury sadan I believe there are two different models but didn't know if parts were different or not.

You will need to remove quite a bit to get it.... unfortunately. You could get a custom hose made to bypass, but a OEM one will work. You need to remove your end links, so I suggest replacing them if they are worn. mine were original and broke as soon as I put torque on them. Youll need 10mm and a 15mm and a (18?) maybe 17mm wrench. Its a tight fit in there, but it can be done. Routing the cable is a *****, too.

So thanks guys for all the info it was the high pressure hose I found a really good mechanic only charged me 155 to do it and it was ready in 45 min so I was pretty happy with that until now I think my transmission just went I call her Betsy lol but I went to the store put her in park and came out put it in reverse and she didn't shift at all so shut off car and then on she shifted but went to about 5RPM before she even got to 5mph and now transmission fluid went from perfect color and level to still being at perfect Level but the color is black 👎👎👎
