I'm ready to drop in a new engine. I've done a little more research now and don't want to make another mistake. I won't get into it but basically I've been waiting on things to happen now for 5 months. I want to do a 4.6 and know that the VIN 9 is 300 hp, 295 lb-ft. VIN Y is 275 HP & 300 LB-FT. You'd think that the VIN 9 would be quicker but everyone online on other forums swears the VIN Y is. It seems that 5 LB-FT beats 25 HP!? I finally figured out that the Y makes it's torque at a lower RPM (4000) & 9 makes it at 4400 RPM. This is the only advantage difference I can really see. I'm looking at a remanfactured '98 Seville SLS VIN Y or '98 Seville STS VIN 9 from Accurate Engines. My problem is that the transmissions on both of those cars were different with the SLS/VIN Y having a 3.11 final drive, STS/VIN 9 with a 3.71 final drive & I have a non-autobahn with a 3.48 final drive. If I had an autobahn the STS/VIN 9 would be the same final gear ration. I also have a stage 3 PCM tune from NSP. So I'm worried about the PCM having issues with the transmission, not the engine so much, as everyone says you can swap engines without issue. I bought my second Aurora in 2016 and have literally put less than one oil change on it! I'll be danged if I drop 4 grand on an engine only to find that Ill need a different transmission to go along with the tune. Maybe I'm thinking too hard on this and it's all going to be fine. The tune was for a 3.48 non-autobahn so I guess performance & fuel economy will be somewhere between an SLS & STS? Chime in guys.

You're not changing the trans or PCM, right? I mean, swapping engines is all you're doing, so no issue, right? Am I missing something?

I'm switching engines and changing out the PCM to the stage 3 flashed tune which I've never got to try out yet. I was getting hung up on the fact that there are so many variations of the Northstar, even the VIN Y & VIN 9 had different HP & LB-FT depending upon year/ OBD I-OBD II, and different transmissions. I believe I was overthinking it and confusing myself since the PCM is tuned for the transmission I have (3.48 final drive). So realistically I'm just adding cubic inches and more power.
