I've had this car for about 10 months. 95k on it. It's been in the family since new, first with my godparents, then my mother, and now with me until the wheels fall off I guess. So I have access to its full maintenance history and it has been well cared for, and mostly driven by two "little old ladies" so never beat on.
Sporadically over those 10 months it wouldn't start when I'd turn the keys. Just...nothing. I'd cycle the key off and it would start, so just an annoyance. This happened maybe a handful of times in 10 months, and always immediately started, so I just ignored it/considered it a fluke. Last Wednesday it did this, but would not start on the second try, or now a week later, on any subsequent tries. So it is just sitting in the driveway.
There had been Cam Sensor and Crank Sensor codes in the computer prior to it not starting - codes P0355, P0340, and P0385. Additionally, it wasn't shifting quite right when the transmission was hot. And finally, there has been what feels like a slight miss at idle for about 5k miles (I've only had it for 10k miles). So the sensors seemed to me to be the right place to start.
I put new plugs in 3 weeks ago.
Voltage is fine. I verified (meter and dash both), and have put the battery charger on it twice just to make sure. Battery is just over 1 year old.
I swapped relays in the fuse blocks - both under the hood and under the rear seat.
I installed the Cam Sensor on the passenger side.
I installed the Crank Sensor that is hidden above the starter.
I had the starter tested - works perfectly.
I have a new Ignition Starter Switch I have yet to install, hoping not to. When I key on and turn to start, I can hear the starter relay (under the seat fuse panel) click, so I'm inclined to think the Starter Switch is doing its job.
What am I missing? Is there a 2nd Cam Sensor hiding somewhere? Is there a system I'm overlooking? Thankfully the weather is good at the moment and I can ride my motorcycle, but that's not a good solution long term in Minnesota!
Is there a security system gone awry? A bad switch somewhere in line? My frustration level is high.
Any help, ideas, pointers, suggestion, voodoo...I'll take it all at this point, I'm stumped.
I don't have a diagnostics tree, I'm hoping to avoid towing it somewhere and paying someone else to fix it. I'm a competent mechanic, son of a mechanic, grandson of a mechanic, so most things I can do for myself (with the help of a good YouTube tutorial...). But I'm just out of ideas on this.
