Hi friends,
I have a 2001 3.5L V-6 with 220,000 miles. Purchased new in 2001. I've never had any issues with the in-trunk CD player.
Today for the first time the 12-CD magazine would not eject from the player. I can hear something cycling in the player as though it is trying to eject the cassette, but it's not coming out. Also for the first time the audio system will not play the CDs loaded into that in-trunk player. I'd like to retrieve my CDs from the player even if I can't get the player functioning again.
I'd appreciate any advice....
Thanks, Ken

Open the door of the changer then insert the the flat screw driver between the metal pace and the cartage see pix bellow . Than push the screwdriver in with some force and down at same time. This will release the cartage. Click on the pic to enlarge.

Thanks Paul, very helpful. The cassette just popped out, as you said.
After reading your post and looking at the photos carefully it took one minute to gather my keys, a flashlight, and screwdriver, to pop the trunk, to open the player door, and to remove the cassette.
Other members: Paul's instructions were simple and direct. But for me the key element was getting over my fear of breaking something. No matter how simple a fix might be, for the novice it helps to have someone else say, "This is how you do it." I think mostly because it diminishes part of the fear of breaking your car and making it worse.

I totally understand the 'fear' part; it's taken me years to fearlessly take my Auroras and Toronados apart, knowing that whatever I attempt, it's a labour of love and compassion for the hobby and Olds heritage. But I DO want to say how fantastic and helpful Paul is when it comes to pointing me and others in the best direction to successfully do our repairs ourselves. Bless and thank you, Paul. You rock hardest!
