hello! i am new to the forum and auroras in general, but i have always been an oldsmobile guy. i have had quite a few including my 65 442. at any rate...
i am looking at buying a 2003 aurora for my daily driver. the car is in excellent shape for a pennsylvania car. there is literally no rust on or under it. it's sort of shocking how clean it is. it has 90k on the clock. the car does have some mechanical quirks. the price is middle of the road per kbb. i have some questions on if i should buy it or walk away.
it needs wheel bearings and tires, no big deal there... engine oil looks fresh but is over filled, tranny fluid isn't burnt, but i will change it, and the coolant looks good. the engine was warm when i got there to look the first time so i have yet to do a cold start. when i started it the engine was quiet and the smooth and the car seems to run good. not as good as the gtp i had, but it pulls.
that said, the dirty and clean air tubes are both missing off the pvc system and there is a bolt stuffed in the throttle body to block the vacuum leak. that seems like no big deal as i can get those cheap on rockauto. obviously i can see and smell some oil coming out of the pcv. i can smell oil when i drive it... it is also definitely leaking a decent amount of oil. i know it is overfilled. is that cause it leaks really bad and they over filled it or was it a mistake? i dont know that... the valve covers do not feel wet. i looked under it and the pan is wet but i can't see where from. how big of a deal is this?
it's also got a low coolant level message even though its full. i am assuming the reservoir/sensor needs changed. the check engine light came on when driving, so i scanned it. it threw a p0420 downstream cat code, but it looks like it has a brand new cat on it? not sure what to make of that. maybe a bad o2? it also has four diffrrent abs codes, which i am thinking the new wheel bearings might fix as well.
so all that said, what do you think about me buying this car? is there something specific i need to look at, etc. thank you, and i hope to join the aurora owners club soon pending me buying this car!
