This is probably a silly question, but my 1997 is whisper quiet, while my 2001 V6 always sounds sportier when I rev It Up. I don't believe I have any exhaust leaks, but I'm wondering should a second generation Aurora be as quiet as a first generation.?

Also, I had my mufflers split on the top of my 2001 with a 3.5l v6. So it wasnt evident they were bad, the only indication was at cold startup in the cold some exhaust steam would come out the wheel well, but it wasnt a lot. I would get down there and look at those parts. the 3.5l v6 definitely has more intake noise, in my opinion. Keep your beauty cover on your engine and it will slightly help the sound

Thanks Aurora Girl. I'm at 225,000 km, that's about 140,000 miles. It just sounds throatier and sportier than I think an Aurora should sound. My 1997 is super quiet and smooth (V8, of course). I'll try to get a better visual inspection soon. Greg

the northstar is a really quiet v8, so that could be part of it.

Quiet? Yeah it is, until you put you foot in it. lol I was surprised at the growl that comes out of the exhaust on my '01 4.0 when I got on it hard, it sounded like a newer performance car. I got a little misty-eyed when that V8 sound hit my ears at 4k RPM. It's been 20 years since I've had a car with a V8.

Sometime over the past few weeks, I got on it hard coming out of a gas station. There was a bicyclist at least 100 feet in front of me in the center of the road. He heard it coming up & then he moved over to the side FAST!!!!!
