This is a sort of place to document my build of a 2001 Aurora to make it less, well, crap. The engine and transmission are the weakest links of the car, with the shortstar being a little gremlin and the 4T80-E being just as reliable as milk a day or two from the expiration date. I love my car, don't get me wrong, but I also want my car to function. Because of this, I want to swap in a buick 3800 engine and a (preferably) manual trans to go with it. If there is a better setup for the aurora please leave it down below, as I am no expert on the subject.

If you say you have a Shortstar, you have a 3.5 V6 with the 4T65E trans. The 4T80E goes with the 4.0 V8.

The car weight is more than let say Buick regal or Olds intrigue. So v6 is not a best option even if trans was perfect. V8 and 4t80E much better combo. I dono what changed but 1997-mid 1999 v6 3.8 engine and 4t65e trans were perfect on Buick and on intrigue and other cars they put them on . How ever something changed mid 99 to 2002 and That trans started to have issues. so my 1998 intrigue didn't had any issue with trans even at 200k miles while my mid 1999 intrigue with short star had hard shift issue at random from 100k to 215k when its fully died.
