I am going to be installing an aftermarket CD player and I was wondering what effect that was going to have on the DIC. I know the DIC pulls the time from the stock CD player and I was wondering what is going to happen when it isn't there anymore. It would kinda suck to lose the ETA fuction and I have no idea how the Date fuction would work without knowing the time.

I've heard that if you pull the stock head unit the date feature on the DIC is lost...however I have also heard that it doesn't. Chances are you'll hear different situations. I guess if you have a new HU that has a clock feature, the wiring can be made to reconnect to the DIC and never lose a feature.

I read somewhere that you also loose the steering wheel controls...?

I knew that was going to happen. There are no inputs on the new CD player for the steering wheel contorls. I don't like it but I am OK with it. My main problem is the DIC.

There is a wire harness for the steering wheel controls, sold at www.crutchfield.com it cost $70 plus dollars, at that price, trust me I can live without the steering wheel controls, plus my Stereo Unit came with a credit card size wireless remote control. [glow=red,2,300]Javi.[/glow]

My girlfriend says I have to get the $70.00 box to use my steering wheel contorls. So that is going to add a little on to this project. I still wonder about the DIC though. Anyone else have any input on what will happen?

I don't know if you have a classic or a 2nd gen, but the 2nd gen does not lose the date function. Here's some proof of that.

Hey Guys,
I just put a Kenwood CD player in my 95. The date is still correct on my DIC. Knock on wood. I haven't even set the time on the CD player either. Is this freakish ? This weekend, my two new MTX 12"s go in.
