I wish I could use this Fram HP-2 Racing oil filter instead of the stock PF-61. Judging by the size of the HP-2 (3 5/8" wide by 5 3/4" high), it probably has twice the capacity of the PF-61, as shown here. _______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

Hi Marc, I don't know a darn thing about oil filters, but the guys over at www.bobistheoilguy.com/ hate Fram filters. Seems Motorcraft is the choice. Check it out.

I've heard for some time that Fram filters are not the best in the world. It seems that their quality and such has declined a lot over the years. But the racing oil filters that they make are not bad. That site that you mentioned looks interesting. ______________ GM!!! BRING BACK OLDS!!!

FRAM also makes the AirHog - apparently a replacement for the K & N. Does anyone know if that's any good or not ?

dont buy any FRAM products. i was changing the oil for the first time on a old truck cause i wanted to learn how to change oil. we put the filter on and it lost almost all oil pressure on startup and was giving that lifter noise, it sounded like the engine was going to sieze.

FRAM also makes the AirHog - apparently a replacement for the K & N. Does anyone know if that's any good or not ? Nothing negative on the Air Hog so far. I saw one post claiming it was better than K&N, no follow up or confirmation and I've lost track of the thread. I think I might, maybe, possibly, conjecture that it could have been on automobileforums or bobistheoilguy. Seems the ***** is with the oil filters, or it could be all the first level consumer products. Marc seems to think the racing oil filters are better, maybe the Air Hog comes under that catagory. I have no first hand knowledge of these issues, but the www.bobistheoilguy.com/ fellas seem to indicate that the regular Framm oil filter has less filter media and is built to a poorer quality than the Motorcraft. I don't even have a clue as to whether Motorcraft makes an oil filter for the 4.0, just suggesting you should check out the link and ask guys who claim they do know. P.S. They are really weird, as one would suspect from guys who sweat about motor oil. Kinda like talking to the "King of the Hill" boys, know what I mean? However this does produce a wealth of knowledge base to draw from. I love the internet.

Motorcraft is to Ford, what ACDelco is to GM, and somewhat like mopar is to chrysler (OEM suplier type of thing)

i use ACDelco ultraguard. it captures down to 8 microns. the blue filter takes 25 microns. if you get one that captures the 8 micron ones, that will have a lot less engine wear. it is 6 dollars more for the filter though and gets jammed up quicker.

FRAM oil filter = bad. FRAM likes to use cardboard parts inside the filter where most other manufacturers use plastic or metal. I don't like the idea of possibly some cardboard disintegrating, getting loose and flying around in my engine - it can't be a good thing.
