Recieved a code and engine light is on for a IAT Sensor---would like to change myself--anyone ever perform this task--it looks like it just pops off---thought if someone owned a manual they could scan the repair in or give a step by step===thanks

Have you made sure that it's not unplugged first of all? Secondly, I think that it just unscrews out of the top of the airbox.. I'm not positive so don't quote me on that though. Remove the top lid of the airbox as if you were giong to replace the air filter. check to see if there are threads. If there are then you just unscrew it to replace.

Wonder why this sensor would even go bad? I agree, make sure it's plugged in all the way, but be careful.

I had a friend come and read codes again---came up with 410, and 2185---secondary air sensor----he reset the codes---we will see what happens...I had already made sure it was connected securely and that code did not come up again

secondary air sensor means that there is an emissions problem. Usually the air injection pump is failing. It's a VERY common problem. In the 10 months I've been a member here, I've seen more than 10 members have theirs fail. I don't know the cost though...

Drove the car ten miles today---and the engine light came back on....It sounds like the secondary air pump is bad===anyone know the cost of replacing one of these? Will I damage the engine or just decrease its efficiency? Thanks for the feedback...

The only job of the air injection pump is to warm up the catalytic converter more quickly. You won't damage anything. The efficiency might suffer though, however.

If it is only effecting the catalytic converter efficiency shouldn't suffer. But your car may not pass an emissions test. On the other hand it is really annoying for the check engine light to be on all of the time. Should your your check engine light be on all of the time, it may hide some more serious problem down the line as well.

Yeah, this air injection pump is the thing that let Oldsmobile label the car as a "low emissions vehicle" - LEV or something, right? It doesn't do anything, in other words, it's moot. Put a piece of black electrical tape over the check engine light and have the car checked once a year or so for other problems

Thanks for the input---but black tape---just can't bring myself to do it....I am going to have this fixed when I bring it in to have the ISS steering problem fixed---this should be a recall item---I know they say it is not a safety issue---is there any avenue to pursue to get GM to cover a car with 88000 miles on it---it seems like the majority of us either have the problem or will eventually get it---bad news on OLDS!!!
